"...Suit up and drive or never see his little girl again. Director Paul W.S. Anderson had a singular vision for Death Race, wanting a tough, gritty look for his film. Composer Paul Haslinger's challenge was to come up with something just as uncompromisingly hardcore musically -- a score that would "reek of dirt and sweat, rust and blood" as Anderson put it. Haslinger responded with a rough, hard-edged inventive score -- exactly as the director ordered. It sounds like no other score this summer. Intrada will release the CD to Death Race on August 19. Warning: Put your helmet on before listening to this album."

Filmmusicmag.com now features DEATH RACE composer Paul Haslinger and director-writer Paul W.S. Anderson talking about "putting pedal to the metal for this brutally rocking soundtrack".

    http://www.filmmusicmag.com/?p=1783

Their archived shows that follow next feature composer Danny Elfman (HELLBOY II), Trevor Rabin (GET SMART) and Ramin Djawadi (IRON MAN).

    ----------

Funny thing is how Daniel Schweiger proclaims " It's a look into the creative process that fans of propulsive scoring won't want to miss" and adds somewhere down the line: "They're the kind of excusive interviews that you'll only find at On the Score. " .... anyway.

More interesting is the observation that there is actually DIALOGUE in the score on CD and according to Dan, the album seems to have a different mix than the film version, with more electronics and synth strings instead of the live strings.

It is indeed but apparently it was part of a deal with the studio to release a certain something from their vaults.

...and by the "glorious" and always modest descriptions of the score, i'd assume we are looking at another Iron Man / 300 kind of cr.

Nice job on the video, Dan. It would have been nice to hear some actual recording stuff too, if only for 20 second. But I'm sure there would have been legal hurdles that you had to go through.

Can you tell us what your next video will be of?

Thanks! What do you mean about "actual recording stuff"? You mean like the final mixes? All the music you heard in the background WAS from the scoring sessions.......

As for the next video - it's a surprise, and will go up tomorrow morning, along with a news/photo item, and an exclusive streaming audio excerpt of the final score mix! To get a sense of what it is.... keep your eyes on all the USA news channels tonight.

I meant, footage of the orchestra recording tracked with the actual sound of the music being played as well.

I also wish it was longer though... tongue

Some of it is. But since I'm editing back and forth between different parts, it's sometimes hard to keep it all in sync. And I don't want the background music to get too choppy..... I think you'll like the video going up tomorrow..... wink

Yes. It's NOT Haslinger's rejected score, but as usual with such "viral stories", it spreads like wildfire in film music communities, and some of us have to run around and put it out, unfortunately.
    I am extremely serious.

Anyone else note a slight nod to Pirates of the Caribbean? Or is it just me? wink
