Music4Games' Interview with Army of Two Composer Trevor Morris

To bring all aspects of the storyline and epic two-man gameplay to life, EA Montreal has enlisted Remote Control composer Trevor Morris (Need for Speed: Carbon, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium) to create a powerful soundtrack. Trevor Morris has worked on numerous Hollywood blockbuster titles including "Black Hawk Down," "Bad Boys II," "The Last Samurai" and "Pirates of the Caribbean." M4G caught up with the composer to discuss his collaboration with Steve Jablonsky on Command & Conquer as well as his score for the highly anticipated, often-touted Gears of War challenger, Army of Two.

Today i listened to THE ARMY OF TWO. I honestly wonder how some people are able not only to enjoy some meaningless RC-isms loud and long parades but praise them as well.

It only works if you have a taste for that sort of thing. I always have, but I can certainly understand how such writing would become frustrating very quickly if you don't.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

Well, i spotted several good cues along the noise. It's too much, too impersonal and all the same. Why can't they develop more on the style heard throughout the 3-4 good cues in each of those scores instead of doing them good and then dropping them for the next one hour for the same ol-sounding RC library stuff?

The Tudors Season 3 [Trevor Morris]
Season three of THE TUDORS premiered to both audience and critical acclaim. It garnered record ratings, making it one of Showtime's most popular series. Both the series and star Jonathan Rhys Meyers earned Golden Globe® nominations for Season 1 (Rhys Meyers earned a nomination for Season 2 as well).

Anne Boleyn is dead and a Catholic rebellion is rising in the north. The king's army makes a bloody example of the traitors, and Henry VIII will not be satisfied until the defiant leaders pay with their heads. The virtuous and beautiful new queen of England, Jane Seymour, has convinced him to reconcile with his daughters, little Elizabeth and pious Mary, whom the insurgents hope will one day restore the Church to power. Mary must wait her turn, however, when Jane blesses Henry with the one thing his other wives could not, a son, only she doesn't survive his birth. Devastated, the king locks himself in seclusion. A new leader is waiting for Henry's power to weaken, a jousting wound threatens his life, and disloyalty is brewing within the court. Fearful of England's waning alliances, the king's advisers convince him to marry homely Anne of Cleves, a political union in which he finds little comfort...until he meets a young, coquettish new mistress named Katherine. In the seductive and gripping third season of The Tudors, the king finally gets everything he ever wanted. But the unrest is continuing, and Henry will stop at nothing, and spare no one, to hold on to the throne.

Composer Trevor Morris won the 2007 Emmy Award for Best Theme for The Tudors and his music for Season 3, now expanded to feature a regal and haunting choir, exhibits his best work yet.

this could be the best season. the first one is really good, very emotional with very good melodies. the second season has a darker tone. the soundclips from the third season have beautiful melodies, especially the first track. amazing. trevor uses lots of solo instruments, vocals and synthetic elements. it's very good mix and it doesn't sound cheap. i'm really looking forward to this score.

First season's score was fantastic! Especially "A Historic Love" which was breathtaking. I have to admit though that I haven't listened to season 2 yet.

Interestingly from a dramatic point of view, I liked the third season a lot less than the first two: I thought it quite mean-spirited and unpleasant in a schoolyard bully kind of way.
The first two seasons were quite exceptionally good.

I have to say I don't really remember the particular music in any of the seasons (although I liked the title theme a lot). The first two CDs are very enjoyable though, with -agreeing with Stavroula- the first CD being the best.

A lovely track, very Thomas Tallis / Vaughan Williams which is very apt.

The Tudors Season 4 [Trevor Morris]

Showtime’s THE TUDORS — a favorite with critics and audiences — presents the rarely dramatized, tumultuous early years of King Henry VIII’s nearly 40-year, omnipotent reign (1509 – 1547). In addition to his famous female consorts, his 20+-year marriage to Catherine of Aragon, and the infamous dalliance with Anne Boleyn, THE TUDORS delves into Henry’s most notable political relationship and the deconstruction of the Roman Catholic Church in England. Season 4 — the final season — focuses on Henry’s ill-fated marriage to Katherine Howard, his uncommonly successful final marriage with Katherine Parr, an attempted invasion of France and the question of the kingdom’s leadership after Henry’s death.

Composer Trevor Morris won the 2007 Emmy Award for Best Theme for THE TUDORS and his music for Season 4 exhibits his best work yet, allowing him the opportunity to bring this epic saga to a powerful close.

It's fun to listen to "Pillars of the Earth" and guess all the scores that were involved as Temp Track...
Listening to track 20 and 21 makes clear, that AVATAR was one of them... biggrin It's all over the place (the Navi theme, I suppose).
    Anyone else?

Anyway, I like Morris' effort. The guessing is just the fun part...
