Rupert Gregson-Williams and Zanelli who worked on all the William Tell Overture arrangements.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

Thank you. Close. they all sound alikeI loved what Rupert did with Hacksaw ridge, that score is incredibly good I never expected it from Rupert.
Speaking of which:
n.p. HANS ZIMMER (and co) - SAINTS AND SINNERS
I am a huge sucker for this kind of Zimmer sound (a la the thin red line), war scores, like this one here, TTRL, King Arthur, Last Samurai, The pacific, parts of gladiator, the whole pearl harbor, tears of the sun, a sound which continues in non war movies like house of spirits, the invincible, parts of henri 4, Hannibal. or Even non-zimmer (at least directly, but still from the Z camp) scores like We were soldiers.
I think that's my favorite type of film music ever.
That's the zimmer I absolutely adore and I am afraid we'll never ever get again with this kind of movies that are being made today and the trends that require music to be dark cold and distantPartly why I was disappointed with Dunkirk I am afraid. Both movie and score, lacked completely any kind of emotion other than constant tension for meat-slayering and butchering at the Dunkirk beach. 'Cause other the fact that it's a true, fact-based story, which is its only saving point, there's no characters, no depth behind them at all, meat being butchered in horrible, very intense ways
Interesting read about 'the dawn of the anti score' : http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2017/08/02/ … anti-score

GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH
No composer currently alive can match the amount of non-stop fun and creativity that Jerry put into this sequel score, my clear favorite of the two scores ever since the utterly brilliant expansion was released by Varèse Sarabande. What's more I would even call the complete score as presented here as one of Jerry's best compositions. It's just fun, fun, fun all the way, and the themes are ultra-infectious !!! It's just 70 minutes of hair-raising moments in the inspired action cues and grinning like a little kid because of all the over the top goofiness. I love it !"considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Rather made him sound like Vangelis.
And Wallfisch is more than capable. I guess your dislike for all things Zimmer makes you even hit the guy who used to orchestrate for Marianelli for example.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

I love 90s-2000s Zimmer. I have nothing against the guy or his pupils (He gave us Powell! And Gregson-Williams). Wallfisch is a fine composer, Cure for Wellness was great, but I think he butchered the Elgar piece.Bach's music is heartless and robotic. -

Wallfisch is probably the most educated composer RCP has at the moment (I wonder what Henry Jackman's credentials are except having a famous father, but he's also quite good with orchestras).
I don't he butchered the Elgar piece that much, the funny bit is that the first time it appears in the score it very much sounds like a Zimmer piece from early 90s.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

I thought it fit in with the rest of it.
Wallfisch was brilliant before he moved to RC. I hope it bolsters his career and he come out back to being brilliant but working on bigger things. Cure for Wellness was so generic. -

The thing is that he is starting to be typecast in horror films which today don't really allow composers to be other than generic. More than blockbusters actually. Though horror films still get fully orchestral scores.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

Unfortunately most horror films now seem to be mostly torture porn type stuff that doesn't allow for anything creative orchestral, synth or otherwise.
Do you know anything about Nolan wanting to use Elgar's Nimrod? On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Yeah, it's in the PR, actually.
Nolan associates Nimrod with very poignant emotions as it was playing during his father's funeral. This and the cultural associations made him ask Hans to include it in the score. Hans asked Benjamin Wallfisch to work that inclusion out.
My interpretation starts here:
Hans might have not been quite excited about integrating a classical piece in the score. That's why he relegated the assignment to someone else. A similar thing happened during The Lone Ranger, when he had nothing to do with all the William Tell Overture (a piece he admittedly hates) arrangements. A part of it might have been the fact that he's not classically educated, so he knows his limitations in terms of manipulating classical repertoire.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

I think Zimmer wasn't excited about dunkirk in general and it showswhen he asked to him to write an emotional piece, he just brought the most english man in and told him just write an emotional vangelis chord-set whatever man i don't care

Exactly that.
It's simply worn out, sadly... it's such a good piece, taken at face value!
But no way that it could not have been used in the Lone Ranger movie: it was his TV theme.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Oh yeah, and this one in particular, I've only grown to appreciate it more and more. The final cue being one of the greatest ending cues in the history of cinema. It greatly enhances the impact of the scene itself."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G.
