Nevertheless, I dutifully listened to the entire score five times, as is my practice with every single new piece of music I obtain. This practice is intended, among other things, to allow scores which are not instantly likeable to grow on me. Unfortunately, unlike just about every other score I've ever purchased, there was absolutely nothing that grew on me in this score.

I do exactly the same thing. I find that I appreciate a score so much more after that. I was very glad to have given Davis' Warriors of Virtue a 3rd, 4th, and 5th listen because I wasn't wowed by it the first time, but by the end I was super impressed. Great score!

    waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh
  3. I've been listening to Eshkeri's Coriolanus. It's a raw, rather sparse score. Repetitive but what there is sounds good to me.

I've had it for a while, it came out as an Academy Promo last winter. It's kind of not really music but its interesting if you're in the mood to hear a buffet's worth of thumping and clanking noises... biggrin
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

    I love it! Rhythm/percussion heaven.

  6. I'm not a fan of CORIOLANUS. I tried listening to that one and couldn't make it more than halfway in. THE YOUNG VICTORIA, on the other hand, is one of his that I admire quite a bit.

    New score ?
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  7. No it came out a year or two ago. The film is nice (though it takes HUGE historical license toward the end), and the score is lovely. It's as good as STARDUST, in my opinion. Perhaps better.

    Was talking about Young Victoria.
Stardust works well in the film but its ear-achingly derivative.

  8. Coriolanus is certainly something you don't hear that often!

I'm intrigued to hear this? Howard Blake's is a lot to live up to.

  10. Check out Ilan's score for Austenland. It's short but utterly gorgeous, with a very classical style. Strings and woodwinds dominate. Timpani, trumpet and clavecymbal accents. On iTunes now.
And his animation score Justin & the knights of valor is coming soon too!

  12. The songs are well produced and Emmy the Great has a good voice, but they are a bit cheesy so not for everyone .

I purchased this last week from iTunes. It's pretty decent score. Lyrical, classical. Strong emphasis on solo violin (or viola?). Quite a harsh sound from that violin, but certainly striking. Worth checking out.

  15. Eshkeri's score is short, but worth every penny. Lyrical, orchestral, with a strong classical influence. The songs by Emmy the Great are deliberately cheesy.

    Thanks,

  16. Synchrotones reviews "Justin and the Knights of Valour".

Eshkeri does the best he can, for a film that sounds terrible and for a director who's fallen in love with the temp-track.

  17. I quite enjoyed some of this but a lot of it was too mickey-mouse filler for my taste.
