  1. Yes, that was kinda strange, though the theme fit there. 007 would be enough though.

Yes, it should have been '007' beer

  2. Pity the 007 Theme wasn't used more often in the series.

I read that David Arnold would like to use it if the right opportunity within a Bond film presented itself, I'd love to hear that!

And yeah, a shame Barry didn't use his '007' theme more, the variations he put it through in THUNDERBALL showed that it could be used in multiple ways.

  3. Oh yes, it would be riveting to hear Arnold using 007. BTW, some of his suspense material definitely harkens back to YOLT.

YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE is the film and score ( if memory serves ) that got Arnold into film music, and yes I agree with you Pawel, I can hear more influence of YOLT in Arnold's Bond than most other Barry scores.

  4. Maybe also Living Daylights in the method of applying electronics. And yes, that was the Space March that hooked him, it seems.

I think it was more the Propellerheads working with him on his Bond CV ( Shaken and Stirred : The David Arnold James Bond Project ) that influenced his techno Bond sound!?

  5. I think the brass in Tomorrow Never Dies has some of TLD quality. Some Arnold action pieces DO remind me of Necros Attack, but that may be just me.

I certainly agree that YOLT has been a great influence on Arnold - and it was also the biggest influence (save the obvious OHMSS) on Giacchino's The Incredibles. Some of the stuff in that score is so close to YOLT, you wonder whether they may have had to pay royalties to use it.

According to Geoff Leonard two Barry CD's are coming soon, one of which is "unexpected", the rumour seems to be Hanover Street, a wartime adventure/romance starring Harrison Ford from the late 70's ( and not that appealing to me ), oh well, I can at least look forward to something Barry.

  6. Yeah, one is coming from Prometheus.
The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else.

I love the theme from Hanover Street (on one of the Silva compilations) but have never seen the film or heard anything from the rest of the score. I'd certainly buy that.

From what I remember the film is poor and this may have coloured my memory of the score?

Still, as I said, this is Barry and I'll have to buy it.

I just watched Hanover Street yesterday on TV. The film is not a masterpiece, for sure, but it is not that bad; the second half is actually quite exciting and emotional. The music by Barry is great. You can hear the beautiful main theme many times and there is also some cool action/suspence music written in typical Barry-style. So if the CD comes out I will definitely buy it!

As a massive Barry fan I'll need to listen to it away from the film.

Nice pic! Now there's a prize for ya...Jane Birkin!

Who was it that dated her first again - Barry or Gainsbourg?

    Barry first.

Birkin went on to do the "infamous" song with Gainsbourg. Serge was one hell of a character, have you ever seen the clip of an interview where he was on some show with Whitney ( 'I Will Always Love You' ) Houston and Gainsbourg says on air "I want to fuck you".

Perhaps I'll try and find it on you tube?

So many Bond theme songs have been lame since Barry's last opus, amazing to think that TLD has THREE great songs.

Intrada's rumoured to be releasing The Golden Seal this evening. That rare thing - a Barry score I've never heard a single note from.

    Timmer, what's it like?

It's really lovely. Barry shares the scoring duties with Dana Kaproff whose contributions are pretty good too.

Very themic and melodic as you'd expect.

I'll happily turn my CDR into a coffee coaster for this one.

I ordered it. The night's biggest revelation was Dana Kaproff being referred to as "him" in the press release. I had assumed he was a woman! (After all, Dana Scully was a woman.)

I think we had a similar problem with Bregt once, on this very messageboard (or its predecessor). Visual evidence suggests that he is, after all, male.

Yeah, I don't think you were ever a contender for the androgynous (sic) part in the movie STARGATE wink
