After having had my podcast running for 5 years now, I need to redesign the page into something more professional. But I realize I don't have the skills do to it, despite the relative ease of using Wordpress templates.

Does anyone know of anyone starting out in web design that needs a bit of experience; or someone willing to do this for a reasonable compensation?

It really isn't that difficult to find a new theme and incorporate it into your site. I modified my site and the IFMCA's site with relative ease. But if you need a hand I'd be more than happy to assist.

In the meantime start looking into FREE Wordpress templates.

Yup, I'm already on it. Installing free templates continually and looking at how it will turn out through "live preview". Alas, I haven't found one yet where something isn't "off" (if I find one that looks reasonably well, I can't adjust columns etc. so it looks proper). I also haven't found a free template designed for podcasts.

I've just been told that there's a new Norwegian film music podcast starting up (damn copycats! wink), so I have to up my game in order to stay in front.

Thanks for your offer, Erik. While I look for a designer, I might need some template help now and then.

Eventually, I'd like my page to be the film music's equivalent of the online magazine I work for, http://montages.no -- with its own, delicate, specially designed interface.

Like Erik said, finding a suitable wordpress theme is like 80% of the work. The one I use over at https://soundtrackworld.com is a standard theme with just some small tweaks. I tried the free one first and then I paid for premium to get all the functionality like custom colors.

If you really want your own design and not pay a huge amount of money, that you otherwise have to pay to a webdesign company you can always look at https://web.designcrowd.com/ That is where I have my logo from.

You don't need a designer. You can easily customize a WordPress template to your liking. You should download a plug-in caled Theme Test Drive. https://wordpress.org/plugins/theme-test-drive/ That allows you "to safely test drive any theme on your blog as administrator, while visitors still use the default one."

Looks like Mopntages is based on a magazine style temple. There are hundreds of similar themes out there.

Montages is a custom-made site, with real programming going on, but I don't know if it was based on a template once upon a time.

I've tried several free templates already, but so far haven't found anything that fits. The one or two whose look I've found decent, came out all wonky and there was no way to edit them with the available editing tools. But I'll probably keep on trying.

For what it is worth, it is a WordPress site, so not fully custom-made of course. But I can image the theme is custom made from the ground up.

You do not have a tech-savy friend that can sit with you to tweak a theme?

Alas, no. I've been in contact with a couple of such people, but I cannot afford them. Montages was extremely lucky to have that tech person involved from the beginning -- who just wanted to develop it without payment. I've not been as lucky. Wish there were a Bregt-type person in my circle. smile
