    LEATHERHEADS
    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

    Music Composed by Randy Newman

    George Clooney
    Renée Zellweger
    John Krasinski

Oscar® winners George Clooney and Renée Zellweger match wits in Leatherheads, a quick-witted romantic comedy set against the backdrop of America’s nascent pro-football league in 1925.

Clooney plays Dodge Connolly, a charming, brash football hero who is determined to guide his team from bar brawls to packed stadiums. But after the players lose their sponsor and the entire league faces certain collapse, Dodge convinces a college football star to join his ragtag ranks. The captain hopes his latest move will help the struggling sport finally capture the country’s attention. Welcome to the team Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski), America’s favorite son. A golden-boy war hero who single-handedly forced multiple German soldiers to surrender in WWI, Carter has dashing good looks and unparalleled speed on the field. This new champ is almost too good to be true, and Lexie Littleton (Zellweger) aims to prove that’s the case.

A cub journalist playing in the big leagues, Lexie is a spitfire newswoman who suspects there are holes in Carter’s war story. But while she digs, the two teammates start to become serious off-field rivals for her fickle affections.

Universal Pictures opens Leatherheads nationwide on April 4.

Randy Newman writing 1920s-style music for a sports film certainly gets my vote.

Composer/arranger/orchestrator Jennifer Hammond recently arranged over an hour of music based on Randy Newman's Toy Story scores for new attractions at Disney World and Disneyland. ScoringSessions.com was allowed to attend the sessions at Capitol Records, and bring you a sneak peek at the live music that goes into theme park rides!

Thanks for the pics, Dan. Disney World is like heaven for a film music fan, especially Disney's Hollywood Studios (in Orlando) where film music, including some impressively obscure stuff, is piped through speakers as you walk around all day long.

This new attraction, Toy Story Midway Mania, looks great and I'm looking forward to enjoying it on this year's trip!
  3. "The Princess and the Frog" started recording back in April. I would assume it's done, unless it's one of those scores that sometimes picks up more sessions later.

Considering the film isn't released for over 18 months, I think that's unlikely. Maybe some songs or something?
  4. Well, all I know is a sessions player has that listed as starting, and everything else listed is films and their composer.

I'm really interested about how Randy handles the animated fantasy genre. He has a lot of potential definitely and I'd love to see how he applies that here... as long as he doesn't use the typical "Randy Newman" brass from Cars, Toy Story 2 etc (I mean like the brass right at the opening of the track "Opening Race" from Cars which IMO has kind of become his signature wink )

Checked it out and while it's definitely not as good as Menken's works, it's not bad either. Let Randy have his chance and hope Menken is back for the rest of Disney's fantasy animated works in the future. wink
  5. Tonight on BBC4 there's a BBC4 Sessions programme featuring Randy Newman:

  6. He's been recording the score and songs slowly, over the year leading up to the film. Unusual.

By the way this is one of the songs Randy played live last year.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YY_q2KuqAso

I know lots of people got displeased when Menken left the project (whatever the reason was). But I really think Randy is a right choice for this jazzy film. Usually I enjoy his PIXAR songs (Time Of Your Life is my favorite), and this new song sounds very good to me. smile

But I'm not sure what I should expect for its score. His scores for Pixar movies are all good, but all sound too similar to me (all films are scored in the same style...).

In this making-of video you can hear the song on the teaser, but this time sung by Anika Noni Rose (Tiana)... I liked her voice a lot!
