My initial pessimism was unwarranted. Quite a few have expressed interest over on FSM too, so we better use our two "exclusive" hours good before things will inevitably veer towards obscure trivia about films and scores from yesteryear none of us have heard about wink

Again, some errors. Now, I can´t even join the Zoom meeting. Anyways, I will sent some pictures of my art deco collection to the ones who joined the Jit.si meeting.

Great meeting again, guys! I like the Maintitles session first because a) I'm more sober and actually remember what we talked about, b) we're fewer people and c) conversation is about everything, not JUST film music. I think we lost Joep and Cailin shortly after the FSM crowd appeared, but Alan stuck with us for a while? My memory is getting fussy at that point. I was so violently hung over yesterday, I could only move from the bed to the couch and back to bed again in the evening.

Yes, I stuck right till the end.

I enjoyed both sections. Yes, the first part was more 'chummy' in the sense that the conversation was more varied in terms of being both about film music but more about social and personal topics. But the second section, which was still very 'chummy', was more geared to film and TV music - The Twilight Zone got a good covering. But I thoroughly enjoyed that too - how often do you get a chance to sit with knowledgeable folks and listen/talk about film music in the same 'room'?

Thor, if you stayed more sober for longer you could steer the conversation to the personal/social. wink

I think that we got to 9 people for a time and I thought that it worked very well.

He, he. Good point. It's a testament to how good a time I have that I keep on drinking long after I should have stopped. I think the next time, I will try to balance the booze out a bit more evenly throughout the evening.

I like both parts of these sessions; both have their advantages.

I do, however, think it was the nail in the coffin as far as Jitsi is concerned. I mean, it worked fine for those of us who used it, but when Drew was just sitting there -- without the ability to talk, just listen -- it stressed me out so much that we moved to Zoom again.

I guess if there's one advantage to Zoom's 40-minute limits, it's that people who wish to leave, can do so in the gaps between log-offs and log-ins without the hassle of saying goodbye to everyone. smile

  2. I suppose that's an advantage!

There is no meeting planned for tonight, but if anyone feels super-impulsive, I've opened up the room for an impromptu chat (I'll keep it open for an hour or so, before I close it if anyone doesn't show up):

Yes, we were four. Alan and I, plus two FSMers. I was probably the most sober I've been in any of these things, even if I had a considerable amount of beer and two glasses of cognac. Good times!

I'll know more about my October weekend plans in a couple of days. I'll set a date for the next meeting after that.

I cannot join 9 or 23 October, in case you'd organise on a Friday.

Btw, 24th is WSA, online edition.

The 9th (i.e. on Friday) is out. I can't then, either. But the other weekends are more open for me. I'll make sure not to make it the weekend of 23rd, then. It will be either the 16th or the 30th. I'll post the date on Monday; just need to clear a few things up first.

There will be only ONE get-together now in October, and that is this Saturday, October 17th, at the regular time 19:00 local Oslo time.

    Set your calendars!

    The link is https://meet.jit.si/MainTitlesandFSMGet-together

We'll move over to Zoom if and when the first person with issues logs on.

I tried to avoid the weekend of 23rd, but seems like the whole of October was busy for you, Bregt. Give my wishes to Kaat, and have a great birthday party! smile

By the way, I just looked at their programme. Interesting selection. Some films I've seen and really liked, others highly recommended by my colleagues and obviously a number of classics from film history. Let me know if you want any recommendations.

    Thanks, will do!

We go to a Belgian movie, some of the actors and director will be present. L'Ennemi.

We'll not see an other film at this year's edition, due to work and covid it was harder to take days off this part of the year.

You're going to watch WSA btw?

If I'm not invited out to some party, I may tune in to the WSA broadcast. But the guests this year aren't my 'top shelf' favourites, so no worries if I miss it.

I see they now offer some of the films online too, for a price similar to the ticket price if you'd go watch in the cinema

For being a small person, Dirk sure does take a lot of space on the stage. biggrin

  4. Not sure I'll make it this weekend. Saturdays are harder for me because it's right in the middle of the day, and I might want to be outside enjoying the nice weather, but it's a possibility!

A great time was had - again! It was just me and Joep for a long while, and we talked about many different things, both personal and film/film music-related. Alan joined too, after some technical issues and dinners. So just the three of us, really, untill the FSM crowd appeared at 21-ish. As usual, Joep disappeared after the move to Zoom.

That being said, once we DID move to Zoom, everything went more smoothly. I've desperately held on to Jitsi because the lack of a time limit, but I think this was the last time. The 40-minute time limit on Zoom seems almost less intrusive than the technical issues that people have with Jitsi.

The next chat will be in November.
