A topic that has cropped up a couple of times is when we joined maintitles (or scorereviews before that). I've never been sure of when I joined but looking at my profile here, 2007 is listed as when I created my account for maintitles.

So, I have been spending a productive hour or so trying to find out when I joined scorereviews. Trawling through web.archive.org I found a comment from me on the favourite Star Trek score topic on Nov 19, 2002. At that point I had already made 19 posts, so I assume that I must have joined sometime in October/November 2002. (I joined FSM messageboard in October 2002.)

And looking down the page there's contributions from the likes of Nightfall, Icemac0, Martijn, Tom Kiefner, Uber-Jason, Manwe, Dan Hobgood, Christian and Dinko - some familiar names!

  1. I joined ScoreReviews late in the game, but I was part of MT since early beta smile

LOL! Last night was fun. I apologize for the horrible rendition of the MULAN song towards the end there, but take it as a compliment -- I always tend to sing a bit at the end of a great party, for better or worse.

The quiz idea sounded neat in theory, but probably wasn't the best idea in real life.
    I am extremely serious.
  2. The quiz was fine. To be honest, I thought that it was just the right length for it to feel like a quiz but not to go on too long. And, if the sound clips had have been listenable, then the different format (images then sound) would have been good too.

But, you need to remember that, when you share your screen we can't hear any audio.

Also, I don't think that your connection can cope with both sharing your screen and dealing with your substantial voice - it's going to have to be either one or the other. Your vocals for the Mulan song kept cutting out but when you sang your song from Chess we could hear it without any drop-out.

He, he. Thank God the sound dropped out on MULAN, then. I think I needed that to warm up the voice anyway, because the CHESS thing went slightly better. At least untill the neighbour banged on the wall. :D

You're probably right that the music clips couldn't be heard in 'share screen' mode. But I'm guessing it would just be my room audio anyway; I couldn't find a way to share audio directly from the PC.
    I am extremely serious.
  3. I'm totally bummed I missed out on all the fun yesterday! I wanted to join, but the timing just didn't work out. Had a full family day of paddle boarding, hiking and lake swimming, summer dinner foods, a couple games of kubb and movie night - so sadly I just couldn't fit it in!

I enjoy catching up with you all, so I definitely think we should plan another one when Thor's back from holiday!

Well, sounds like you had a fun day anyway, with all those activities! And funny that you also have kubb over there; I always thought that was a Nordic thing only.
    I am extremely serious.
  4. I hadn't heard of kubb until a few years ago. My sister made a kubb set for my parents for Christmas one year (she had learned about it and played through some friends). I don't love playing games as much as some people, but I have surprisingly good aim (I surprise myself!), so you don't want to play kubb, bocce, corn hole or any other aim-related skill games with me! You might get very frustrated! biggrin Haha! Do you have a favorite game, or one that you're surprisingly good at?

Don't know about 'surprising'. I tend to know what I'm good at and what I'm not, so I rarely get surprised by possible hidden skills. Was pretty decent at football, basket and badminton back in the day. I'm fairly good in Trivial Pursuit and those kinds of knowledge-based games.

As for kubb, I'm fairly middle-of-the-road, I think. It's been a very popular game in Norway for the last 15 years or so, and I'm sure there will be several rounds of this when I go on my summer holiday with family in a week or so. That's the genius thing about the game; it's for all ages. Even if the rules change a bit, depending on who you play it with.
    I am extremely serious.

Lounge Laura and I will be hosting this week's drinkers' Zoom chat this Friday at 4 pm, aka 16:00 EST, this Friday, Thor willing. This will include persons from "that other film score message board." That's 1 pm for our West Coast friends, and 9 pm for our UK friends.

    Will this work?

    Details to follow.
  5. That would work for me.

I just want to point out that this is not an 'official' Maintitles gathering, as I won't be hosting any more of these untill late August, nor participating in chats hosted by others. Hence no new date given in the headline -- number 4 will be in August. But have fun, those of you who can attend! smile

This is simply intended as a maintitles/FSM chat for the socially challenged (such as myself) during the pandemic.

I seem to 'special' for Thor's chats in that I seem to be the only one that requires a password to join. I don't know what password it is - Thor, is the password you send me a meeting password or your general Zoom password?.

I can't see where the problem is at my end but I may need a password from you so that I can join your chat. If Thor comes back to say that the password he sends me is his actual Zoom password then any password you send me should be done securely. As a private message from this forum?

    Sorry for being so complicated!

The password I've sent you in the past has been my private password, I think. I have no idea what is required of Onya's Zoom meeting.
    I am extremely serious.
  7. When you set up our meetings do you schedule a meeting or go via the 'host a meeting' option?

I had Anne go through the process of scheduling a meeting and it seems that a password is generated along with the meeting ID. So it seems that passwords are generated for each new meeting. But it seems only I am prompted to enter a password when I join.

How do people use Zoom? Do you access via a browser or do you use the Zoom app/program?

For my part, I tried the 'scheduling' ting once. Didn't work out, so I basically just invite everyone to my "Zoom room".

When I've scheduled a meeting on Zoom the password section says it's "generated for people dialing in from a phone or room system" I've only ever used Zoom via my desktop computer through the app that is automatically downloaded when you sign-up, so I've never been prompted to enter a password. I'm assuming you're using a computer too? Maybe if you're calling from an iPad or tablet, it thinks you're dialing in from a phone? Just a theory.

I'm planning to come hang out tomorrow for a bit. See you soon!

Yes, I saw the dialling from a phone part too. But, as far as I know, I am just using the usual wifi connection to my regular broadband via my laptop.

I don't think that this Friday's chat will be as long as Thor's chats. But it will be nice to get together again.

The thing is though, reading through the page linked to below, everyone should be adding a password when joining a meeting unless the administrator changes the default setting:

    https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articl … nd-webinar

But, for Thor's meeting, I seem to be the only one prompted to add an password. I know that when my wife works with Zoom she thinks that participants have to add a password. Perhaps certain general telecom settings are set up in such a way that some locations need to add a password. There's few people in the UK for the meetings so far so it's hard to check with them what they have to do.

Very sorry about this, but a time-sensitive issue has arisen, and we will need to cancel today's planned chat.

We would like to schedule another on a Friday between now and Thor's next chat. I will keep you posted.

    Sorry for the hassle.

OK, so I'm back from my holiday, and - as promised - aim to host the fourth installment at the end of August. More specifically, next Saturday - August 29th. Friday will always remain the best day for me, and we'll return to that if this 'series' goes on a bit longer, but Saturday more easily accomodates our US citizens, so we'll try that for no. 4.

I've grown tired of the 45-minute limit on Zoom, so I want to try something else that I've been recommended: https://meet.jit.si/. It's a secure, open-source system that does not require any software to be installed. You just click the link that I will provide a day or two in advance, and you should be 'in'.

So the FOURTH MainTitles video meeting will be:

SATURDAY, AUGUST 29 at 19:00 local Oslo time. Use https://www.thetimezoneconverter.com/ to find out what it corresponds to in your country.

As usual, I'll open the door for FSMers a couple of hours in, at 21:30 (added an extra half hour for the exclusive MainTitles meeting).

    Mark your calendars!
    I am extremely serious.
