  1. Has anyone listened to the clips of Quartet's release of a remastered version of Ennio Morricone's The Thing?

My hearing must be going as I can't hear that much of an improvement on Varese's earlier release. In fact, some of the mixing on clips such as "Humanity (Part II)" isn't an improvement to me.

    I haven't, no.

I think the film is Carpenter's best, no doubt, and I like how the score works in the movie. But I've never been able to enjoy it alone, so I've never owned it in any shape or form (even though I've sampled it, of course).
    I am extremely serious.

I find the album an album of two halves. There's some cues that I think work well in the film and work equally well as a separate listening experience - and are some of the best pieces Morricone has composed. But there are some cues that I don't like at all.
