A sad day today. Ennio Morricone passed away at 91 in a Rome hospital due to injuries after a fall.

Very sad news, a true legend. At least his music will live forever.
  1. I have just heard the news. His legacy will live on long after his passing.

Very sad news indeed. Yes, 91 is an incredible age to reach, but Morricone was so active up untill the last, I thought he would last forever. But goes to show how vulnerable you are to injuries when you're up there.

Morricone was always on/off to me. Some things I can't stand, other things I absolutely love. I am particularly a fan of his melancholic, gorgeous, broad melodies.

Currently writing an obituary in Norwegian, will need to gather my thoughts a bit.
    I am extremely serious.

    Sad.

In the summer of 2019 I revisited just about every single score officially released. A huge endeavour, in such a short period of time, something I will most likely never do again. For now, I will just enjoy the highlights of his legacy.

A nice summary of Morricone's life and legacy.

  3. Such sad news to wake up to. But I guess at 91, it was expected, I just didn't want to think about it. He and his music are one-of-a-kind and I'm sad I never got a chance to experience one of his concerts.

10 years ago some of us were in London for that concert in the Royal Albert Hall, which I think was the trigger to start touring again outside Italy. What a concert, it was the first time I heard the encores of The Mission and The Good, the Bad and The Ugly.

I thought it would be his last concert, but I've seen him twice after that, once outside on the Sint Pietersplein in Gent and once in Antwerp. He kept going. smile

  4. That's so amazing! He must have really loved conducting live and connecting with audiences in real life. So amazing that at that age he really never retired - I hope we all have such lust for life!
  5. I attended one Morricone concert, one that was free and organized very hastily as the intellectual elite of Kraków disagreed with the choice of the main star of Kraków's 750th anniversary. So they very quickly brought Morricone. It was on the Market Square and, even if some of the music was quite challenging (they actually played one of his concert works), it was still sublime and I got to see him conducting (even if from afar) live.

The rest of the night was also special (including a friend who caught an almost paparazzo photo of Morricone going to his car), but for other reasons smile

  6. That certainly sounds like a special evening! Lucky you! smile

Yes, I treasure these concert moments even more now.

Here's my review of last year's concert here in Oslo (in English): http://celluloidtunes.no/ennio-morricone-in-oslo/

I also have a review of the 2010 concert in London, but that's in Norwegian: https://montages.no/2010/04/ennio-morri … bert-hall/

But the latter was a doubly fun event, because it also gathered lots of us Maintitlers in one place. Here's a photo outside the RAH, before the concert: https://scontent.fosl4-2.fna.fbcdn.net/ … e=5F291898

I'll tell the rest of the night whenever we get to Zoom again with everyone. It was... quite special.

    You got lucky, right?

The 2010 RAH concert did not exactly trigger his touring outside Italy; the Barbican concerts in London 2001 kinda started it all, and he had especially busy schedule after his 2007 Oscar.

I was lucky to see him three times: Belgrade 2009, Zagreb 2015, Budapest 2016. Best seats, 50 euros every time, but that is Eastern Europe for ya.
