  1. I am curious to know what drinks (if any) have helped get you through the various lockdowns?

In our house it has been gin that has been out go-to beverage. With the general increase in the different types of gin that have become available it has been easy to get several different types of gin to sample. Orange gin has been my particular tipple and it goes down perhaps a bit too easily! I think at one point there were 9 different types of gin or gin liqueurs in the house at the same time!

My housemate and I moved into our new place just before the UK's November lockdown and we went through a lot of gin in those four weeks. spin

My favourite was Thomas Dakin from Manchester. Not very juniper-forward but lots of citrus and coriander. Very nice.

This current prolonged lockdown we've actually been making lots of cocktails, particularly of the Tiki variety. So lots of different aged rums and such. It's been fun. My liver hasn't thanked me though.
  2. We missed you on the Zoom meet-up, Lee smile

We sure did. You've always seemed interested to join, Lee, but maybe there are circumstances we're not aware of that have prevented you from joining. Whenever you feel you're ready, that's fine.

The go-to beverages are -- unsurprisingly -- specialty beers in all shapes and forms. Mostly Belgian blondes and IPAs, but I experiment with a little bit of everything. The only thing I'm still not getting into, is Geuze/sour beer. I've tried and I've tried, but it just tastes like bitter soda water to me.

I can't drink a lot of wine due to my estrophageal hernia, but some wines that are low on tannines work - I've found a great red wine in Camp, and a great white wine in Rosemount, both Australian. Rosemount is not dry, but it's not so sweet, it's desert wine either.

I don't drink a lot of "hard licors", but I occasionally tip off the evening with some whiskey or cognac - currently I have a Bache Gabrielsen XO cognac on my kitchen bench. I'm sorry to disappoint, Alan, but I've never liked gin. Don't know why.
    I am extremely serious.
  3. Now that I have identified an online website specialising in speciality beers of the world I may be getting Abbey beers more. Our local supermarket's selection is a bit limited. They have lots of IPAs but I am not too keen on these.

Spirits tend to be what I go for but I want to move away from those - certainly for the Zoom meetings. It is easy to get through a lot of whisky or vodka during one of those chats (after having 2-3 cans/bottles of beer).

Thor, there's so many different flavours of gin nowadays - which is a problem since some of them taste more like non-alcoholic fruit drinks rather than gin!

  4. Ah, one beer that the local supermarket does have is Westmalle Dubbel. Enjoying one now!

It's a great beer, but it's very expensive in our wine monopolies over here. For some reason more expensive than most other Abbeys/Belgian blondes.

Still haven't been able to find the elusive and legendary Westvleteren over here. When Bregt, Thomas and I went to the Westvleteren brewery/abbey a few years back, we were told it was only sold there. Obviously, it's sold a few more places, because I've seen it in stores. Just not in Norway.
