  1. It's frustrating that the media are focusing on one-liner headlines sowing doubt for the AstraZeneca vaccine and blood clots. The news bulletins that I have seen do go into the factual details that explains the situation.

But few media outlets have tried to minimise the sensationalist headlines.

  2. Can you explain the relationship in a more detailed manner, though? I'd like to have ammunition against some skeptics.

Yes, I'm just going by what the media tells me. I don't have it in me to seek out research reports myself.
    I am extremely serious.
  3. This whole thing is to do with assessing the risks of having the vaccine versus the benefits you would gain by having the vaccine.

Based on some of the data coming out of Germany if you vaccinate a million people then you would expect 12 to have a blood clot and four of them to die. So, there is a risk (but there is no evidence that the clots are being caused by having the vaccine.)

BUT, but if a million 60-year-olds catch coronavirus then around 20,000 would die of Covid-19. If a million 40-year-olds catch coronavirus then around 1,000 die. It would be a few hundred people in their 30s.

So, you can see that the benefits of having the vaccine over the risks of having the vaccine increases with age.

And if you didn't have the vaccine at and caught COVID then the chances of dying is 1 in 20,000 (though I can't find the source but you can see that the chances of dying from COVID is high compared with dying of a clot after having the vaccine.)

  4. I was inoculated (first dose) with the AstraZeneca vaccine myself. And I know quite a few skeptics, some of whom are very rabid and that includes the composer Bartosz Chajdecki. I know he's got a lot of love on message boards, I'll out him as an anti-vaxxer gladly.

  5. There's a definite feeling of mixed messaging here in the UK than will undermine the drive to have people vaccinated.

A 'UK expert' is saying today that people in their 20s should keep getting vaccinated, saying this the day after the government’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) announced that healthy 18- to 29-year-olds who were not at high risk of Covid should have the option of an alternative to the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab if one is available.

Again, the media's simplistic headlines instill doubt and maybe even fear into the situation where there need not be any doubt.

I always think that, no matter how many facts you can bring to a discussion, there is little one can do to change an anti-vaxxer's opinion.

  7. "UK Covid cases could rise again despite vaccine progress – WHO official" is a headline at The Guardian newspaper.

Well, yes, of there's that chance. There's still a significant number of new cases being reported every day and lockdown measures are being relaxed next week, so there's likely to be a spike.

The whole point of the vaccine isn't to stop cases. It's to reduce the severity of the infections in people who currently would die or require hospitalisation/ICU treatment.

Got my second shot two days ago. How is everyone else's vaccine progression going along?
    I am extremely serious.

Being old I have had my second shot months ago. Did you have any effects after your second jab? Sore arm?

Sore arm for a few days after the first shot. Not really after the second (Pfizer). Waiting for possible effects.

  10. Fully vaccinated since 2 weeks. Apart from a sore arm, no problems during any injection.
Phizer considering Astra Zeneca was from the age of 41
    waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh
  11. I've been fully vaccinated for a couple months. I got the Pfizer shots. Second shot had me feeling a little sick for a day, and my arm was definitely sore. We've been able to get our oldest two kids (14 and 12) vaccinated as well. The 12 year old just hit 2 weeks since her second shot.
