  1. I was wondering if there's any film music albums that are particularly memorable - for whatever reason - to you that you would like to share?

For me, one that particularly comes to mind was a 2-LP compilation album released by the BBC in 1984. Featuring Roy Budd conducting the London Symphony Orchestra I remember having to order this release from my local record store and having to wait for weeks for it to arrive. Below is a track list:

Roy Budd Conducts The London Symphony Orchestra – The Fantasy Album

    Side One
    1. Raiders of The Lost Ark / Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom
    2. Superman

    Side Two
    1. E.T.
    2. Supergirl

    Side Three
    1. The Complete Star Trek Suite (TV theme/The Motion Picture/The Wrath of Khan/The Search for Spock)
    2. Sinbad and The Eye of The Tiger
    3. Alien

    Side Four
    1. Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back - Return Of The Jedi
    2. Dr Who

It was a thoroughly enjoyable album at that time with some great versions of familiar themes. I do wonder now how it would sound and I do wish that it would get a release on album or digital for me to revisit it now.

Sounds like a cool album, but I'm a little confused about the parameters here. They seem a little wide.

I felt the wider the better. More chance of getting posts!

Understood. It's just that my brain implodes with too wide parameters. wink

If I may specify myself, I could limit it to "noteworthy compilations with a nostalgic value" (going by your own pick). As such, I could - for example - mention the old Kunzel album THE GREAT FANTASY ADVENTURE ALBUM from 1994. It's one of my earliest soundtrack compilations. A friend of mine at the time had acquired it and brought it to our house. I subsequently copied it to cassette and listened to it endlessly. The sound effects were a bit annoying, but the performances are phenomenal. Never got the CD, though. I did name an episode of Celluloid Tunes after this album: http://celluloidtunes.no/celluloid-tune … -edition/.

  3. Do you still hear the sound effects when you listen to 'clean' versions?

I have mentioned before that I still hear the patterns of clicks from scratches on specific tracks on some LPs I had.

    sad

Alas, I no longer have the cassette of this particular album. My dad fairly recently chucked away about 2/3rds of my cassette collection in preparing a move (my old cassettes were stored in their attic). And I never re-bought it on CD or in digital format. But I remember including the sound effects on the cassette -- it was kinda tricky to pick and choose tracks with cassette copying. Difficult and too much of a hassle to make a "clean" copy without some serious timing skills (rec, pause, play and all that).

Obviously, these days I weed out all sound effects and dialogue from my digital soundtracks. Also - like you do - most of the songs, unless the song is part of the score's fabric. Or when it's impossible to weed out, like the car chase cue from FEAR IS THE KEY.
    I am extremely serious.
