Apologies in advance for not having all the info infront of me, but there is supposed to be a "Big" CD announcement today, by I believe SAE (probably an FSM CD), which as I recall has Neil Norman involved (some of you may recall he w instrumental in the GNP Star Trek CD releases...).

Also, SAE said (I think both these were on their Facebook) that FSM will be releasing "Soon", Trek III (Horner).

If they release Watchmen, they'll release everything. I don't think there's any more left we haven't heard.
  3. From a label head (some still not widely known overseas label) at the FSM board, when talking about Barry's scored to "The Taramid Seed" and whether or not the masters exist:

I tried to acquire the rights to this score last year (one of my favorites of Barrys seventies), but were already licensed to another label. And the launch will be during 2010 ... I can only read up to here

Any more takers of "Jack The Giant Killer" composed by Paul Sawtell & Bert Shefter ?
It's being released by Intrada at 1000 copies .
I always loved that Main Title and I for one am very happy it gets a decent release .

  4. I had a listen to the clips to Jack The Giant Killer but I decided to hold off on this one. I'd never heard of it until it was announced over at Intrada.

I don't remember the music at all. The film had quite poor sub-Ray Harryhausen stop motion animation but I remember being charmed watching it as a kid.

    I'm passing as well.
I don't know it, don't know the film, and the release is in mono.

None of these qualifications make it particularly attractive to me.

  5. Mono isn't a reason to pass on a score. Not everything was recorded in stereo, and not all stereo elements survive -- sometimes we got to deal with what we got.

Not liking the samples -- hat's a good reason. Enough for me.

Not per se, but in the context it's just one more nail in the coffin of decision.

Whoah...it's sold out... in pre-order stage. shocked

    Am I missing something here?
Was this a landmark score, film or recording?
Is Sawtell a pseudonym for a young Goldsmith?
    confused

It's only 1000 copies. There are plenty of fantasy film score fans from that era that are going to love that release. Plus, I'm sure there are people out there that just bought it because of the collectible 1000 copy number.

Disregarding those who purchase limited editions just to resell them, it is admittedly rather nice to own something of which there are only 1,000 in the entire world. I rather cherish my own, especially the True Confessions album by Delerue which someone was kind enough to sell me for a very low price. Rare, and it's a truly beautiful* score too. I would never buy something JUST because it's rare, but it's a nice bonus. smile

*as opposed to all those simpering little falsely beautiful scores
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!
  6. It was only 2 days ago that SAE said "The Sean Connery/Jerry Goldsmith score should arrive next week with another FSM cd along with it."
    Next week isn't this week!

"Outland" next week, folks. I'm more excited by what the other title could be, as I've only cared for two cues from the aforementioned Goldsmith score.

  7. Outland? A definite pass. I heard it again recently and there's too much of nothing going on, which is not something Goldsmith excels at.

One new score being announced. I think it's a safe bet this will be a multiple CD "Spartacus".

Remind me not to go to the casino with you! wink

    Anyway, HERE's a an upcoming (re)release I will buy in a heartbeat.

I hope they do a good job cleaning up the sound: both my old LP and the bootleg sound a little muffled to me. To have that sound cleaned up a bit would be great (although I guess it'll be extremely hard, with the masters apparently missing. sad )

    EDIT: link fixed.

Now that's something I want! One of my favourite Morricone scores - ( and I only have the bootleg shame )
I hope it's going to be released soon.
