    Great show and music!

I assume you're following this, what with the dinos and everything, Tim?

I know. I saw on Facebook!
Very good news: I was looking for a release earlier this year and was rather disappointed there hadn't been one in all these years.

So I'm very happy with this. A sure-fire buy for me. Nice one, Mikael!

Yeap! They're mostly wildly innaccurate but I don't watch the show for accuracy, I watch it for fun and to lose myself for an hour. cool

  1. And the next Kritzerland appears to have been guessed -- a Francis Lai western score:

    "Another Man, Another Chance"

  2. It is unfortunate that labels such as Kritzerland and FSM, etc are finding themselves releasing little-heard-of scores in these money-tight times.

There are the occasional posters who shout "Great!", "Another Holy Grail" and these people are pleased. But for the vast majority of film music people these are difficult sells.

  3. I go by the samples, myself. Though I have no job, so I buy no CDs.

  4. Young's website says LLLR will be releasing his score to "Jennifer Eight". That goes without saying we'll be getting Maurice Jarre's rejected score, too.

Some obscure label with, as pointed out by an FSM member, not so great a history on mastering and presentation, is reportedly working on Delerue's rejected "Something Wicked This Way Comes". Disappointing. Touchstone should have let Intrada have that, since they did Horner's.

What label would that be, Justin?
    Could you find out?

  5. This news comes from Delerue nut Maleficio at FSM (okay, he's just very passionate about Delerue):

"Well from what I know, that score will most likely be released by Stephane Lerouge's label "Ecoutez Le Cinema" in October. Unfortunately, given how Lerouge produces albums, the release will not be sourced from the original mastertapes kept in the Disney vault, will not be C&C, and will not include the source music."

Which leads me to believe, now thinking about it, that this is likely just a bootleg; overseas laws are meaningless if we own the tapes and they don't get the rights; there is no "grey area". And I doubt Disney/toushstone would let this go by with some poor mastering.

Maybe there is still hope after all.

Well this is where I got the information:

    http://www.cinezik.org/dossiers/affguid … tez-cinema

Using Google Translate on 15th interview question:

"This burst of spring would include a new Delerue but we have received the legal authorities too late. It will be released in November. It is a concept album, based on two large partitions rejected. Or say no use: the formulation is less brutal. The bet this album will also graph: legally, we can not use the operating equipment (posters, pictures), given that this is not the final soundtrack. Designers will have to redouble their inventiveness ..."

Make of it what you will....
  6. Lookie, lookie! In response to somebody bringing it up...

MV said "I say a 2 disc set and make it the ultimate Ghostbusters soundtrack release!

    wink

    MV"

Could we possibly be actually looking at finally not only the compelte score, with a better master than the Varese Club, and even the songs -- a number of which were great choices?

  7. New from Quartet Records:

Quartet Records proudly presents three new releases for this month of September:

HARRY IN YOUR POCKET / Lalo Schifrin

World premiere release of the powerful, full melodic score by Lalo Schifrin for 1973 United Artists production Harry in Your Pocket, directed by Bruce Geller, starring James Coburn as a professional pickpocket.

Though released earlier than The Sting that year, and featuring a far different “con,” Harry in Your Pocket would share that film’s dynamic of an upstart thief learning the ropes from a seasoned professional.

The jazz-based score of Lalo Schifrin (The Cincinnati Kid, Cool Hand Luke, Bullitt, Dirty Harry, Joe Kidd, Kelly’s Heroes, The Fox) is a big surprise for the variety of themes, the importance of "source music" in the development of film, and for his main theme "Day by Day by Day”: a beautiful and melancholy tune that is one of the Schifrin’s best.

The score of Harry in Your Pocket has never been release until now since the tapes are lost. In fact, in the MGM/UA vaults was only the mono Music Stem, not in too good conditions. This premiere release was produced by Nick Redman, who has gone to the personal tapes of Maestro Lalo Schifrin: three reels of 15 ips. with the complete score in stereo. Unfortunately the vocal version of the main theme, with Bruce Geller lyrics and performed by Josh Adams, was not in the Schifrin’s tapes. We removed and restored this cue from the mono Music Stem and included at the end of the CD as a Bonus Track. The score of Harry in Your Pocket is finally full released at last.

Produced by Nick Redman. Mastered by Daniel Hersch. Extensive liner notes by Daniel Schweiger, discussing the film and the music. This edition includes a 12-page full color booklet.

MALENKA, LA NIPOTE DEL VAMPIRO / I DIAVOLICI CONVEGNI - Carlo Savina

World premiere release of two Carlo Savina horror scores, written for Italian-Spanish co-productions, both shot at the picturesque site of San Martín de Valdeiglesias.

Malenka, la nipote del vampiro (1969) stars Anita Ekberg as the beautiful heiress to a castle, who is sucked into dark magical practices by her youthful uncle, who claims to be 500 years old due to a magic spell. I diavolici convegni (1971) stars Krista Nell as a woman looking after her disappeared sister, coming across a twisted doctor who abducts vacationing beauties on a regular basis. Both films receive excellent underscores by Carlo Savina, who uses an organ to lend a Gothic feel to the castle, coloring his music with exotic pop and jazz elements to make the story’s more relatable and contemporary.

The release contains all the surviving music from both productions. In the case of Malenka, the music had been mastered from a monaural tape to feature the complete score as it was recorded. As a special bonus, we also include eight cuts remixed into stereo from the sole surviving 8-track tape. The program for I diavolici convegni is much shorter, amounting to around 20 minutes, but it’s all the original music Savina wrote for the film. While there’s a lot more score in the film, those cues were taken from earlier productions and are thus not featured on the disc.

Two excellent scores for the price of one! The disc also includes the title song “Malenka” by Giulia Rei and “My Wonderful Day” from I diavolici convegni. Produced by Claudio Fuiano. Liner notes by Gergely Hubai offer brief biography about the composer, plus discussions of both films and scores. The package contains a 12-page full color booklet.

A CIASCUNO IL SUO (WE STILL KILL THE OLD WAY) / LA POLIZIA E' AL SERVIZIO DEL CITTADINO? - Luis Bacalov

Remastered and slightly expanded re-issue of two classic scores by Luis Enriquez Bacalov, presented together for the first time.

Elio Petri’s A ciascuno il suo (aka We Still Kill the Old Way, 1967) stars Gian Maria Volanté, Gabrielle Ferzetti and Irene Papas in a beautiful vendetta tale as idealistic university professor Paolo Laurana investigates two strange murders in Sicily while he also fells for one of the widows. The film marked the only occasion director Petri worked together with Luis Bacalov, who provided a varied and thematically consistent underscore that rangers from a rush romantic melody for Sicily and Laurana to harsh jazz rhythms for the criminal activities. The program also includes four different versions of the memorable Samba tune that was used in the film’s expertly shot finale.
La polizia è al servizio del cittadino? (1974) is a poliziottesco starring Enrico Maria Salerno and Giuseppe Pambieri, giving us an uncompromising look at the operations of a powerful crime syndicate in Genoa. Bacalov’s bustling big city music matches the gritty urban tone of the film with a memorable main theme that lends an almost poetic quality to the violent events. Other themes include a lonesome melody for the policeman whose private life had been ruined by his immersion in crime, plus great action and suspense set pieces following the unorthodox investigation of Inspector Seroni.

These scores had been previously issued by Point Records on separate discs. This new release offers both works in complete form with a better organization of the tracks and estimated chronological order which we only modified to make the disc a better listening experience. The single version of Bacalov’s “Samba” from A ciascuno il suo makes its CD debut here. Restored and mastered by Claudio Fuiano. Extensive liner notes by Gergely Hubai offers brief composer biography, film and score information, plus track-by-track analysis of both scores.

The three items are now availables for Pre-Order. The CD's will come the next September 10th.

    UPDATE:

"Ghostbusters" is not coming from LLLR; that was just teasing score nuts.

  14. Posted by Quartet Records at FSM, upond Doug leaking news at Intrada on another re-release of "Casino Royale":

    Yes, we are.
We do not like to reveal anything until the CD is in the plant, but others do it for us ... Thanks Intrada!
And not is a reissue of the Varese or Kritzerland editions.

Is a 2-CD contains the following:

    - CD1: Full Score in Mono, mixed to Stereo in Protools, and I must say the result is SPECTACULAR (73 minutes).
    - CD2: Album version, from one copy of Album Master in Stereo preserved in the vaults of Sony Music Spain in very good conditions (yes, the album was released in several countries in Europe by RCA, now owned by Sony, and we were lucky that they still retained a copy.
    - The package includes a book of 52 (yes, 52) pages in color

This will not happen until christmas or maybe the next year. Now, without the surprise, we have no hurry.

    Thanks Doug, again.

  15. You know how Varese advertises its upcoming CDs?

"Oh my god! The best score from Powell ever!" / "The amazing, thought provoking, never anything like it before Rolfe Kent score, is amazing!"

You know. Take their description of "Star Trek: Nemesis" versus the actual score.

Well, they are releasing "Christophe Beck's score to "Tower Heist". Am I the only one who finds this funny?

The original score for TOWER HEIST is the newest from Christophe Beck, the composer of The Hangover.

One of the near future releases from Kritzerland is:

    "Summer and Smoke"
    By: Elmer Bernstein

No word on when, but it is not the next one.

  16. When asked about when that Bernstein score will be out, Bruce replied:

    Probably November-ish, depending on approvals.

  17. Speaking on the "Spider-Man" film trilogy scores:

"If one does, it would be for the first film only and to coincide with the 10th Anniversary

    MV"

The 10th anniversary would be May of next year. Realistically, if it was going to happen, it would already have to have been in the works, I take this quote as a hint of somethign to come.

  18. Roger has said over at the Intrada forum the reason Horner's rejected score to "Young Guns" isn't out -- Horner had a bad experience on the film, and doesn't want it released.

Boy, I hope some enterprising label who doesn't care if their buddies with Horner, just goes to the studio that has the masters, and releases the damn thing. And Horner can go on doing score with the four-note danger motif and insulting superior rejected scores before him.

  19. Intrada's next release (sorry for the delay in posting) is:

    "Rampage"
    By: Elmer Bernstein

Also, Richard Kraft posted at FSM (under the handle elfmanburton):
"The soundtrack to Danny Elfman's Cirque Du Soleil show, IRIS:A JOURNEY THROUGH CINEMA will be released in November on Cirque du Soleil Musique. A CD promotional sampler containing three tracks (The Twins, Kiriki, Movie Studio) is being distributed to the press at Opening Night which takes place tonight at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood"

And there's a new limited edition John Williams coming any time now; title unknown.
