What an uninspiring set of titles.

Aren't several of them already available, albeit as digital downloads?

I believe these are aimed primarily at those who refuse to buy downloads and only want physical copies, or to put it another way, the FSM messageboard.

THIBAUD THE CRUSADER (EXPANDED) (1968) • FORTUNE (1969)

Music Composed and Conducted by Georges Delerue

    Limited Edition of 1000 copies.
More than 65 minutes of music, including 18 minutes of music never released before.
8-page CD booklet with French and English liner notes by Gilles Loison.

    Release Date: July 20, 2015

After the previous CD releases of the television works of Georges Delerue (Les Visiteurs / L’Homme qui revient de loin and Le Mythomane / L’Éducation sentimentale), Music Box Records is very pleased to explore once more the television scope of Georges Delerue's music and presents two complete scores for the significant work of French Award-winning writer/director/editor Henri Colpi: Thibaud ou les Croisades (Thibaud The Crusader) (1968) and Fortune (1969). For the cinema, Georges Delerue worked with Henri Colpi on three films (Une aussi longue absence, Mona, l'étoile sans nom and Heureux qui comme Ulysse).

Thibaud ou les Croisades (Thibaud The Crusader) tells the story of Thibaud, a half-French, half-Arab crusader knight, fulfilling various missions, ranging from escorting pilgrims through treacherous areas to the capture of enemy Turks. Georges Delerue, already renowned for his talent for scoring period pieces, was the natural choice to score the epic adventures of the White Knight Thibaud. The composer chose an instrumental foundation bringing together horns, strings and percussion through which to express the vigour and nobility of the Templars. He added to this an oboe, for appearances by the Turkish army. An English horn serves to evoke Thibaud’s nostalgic moments or, in another register, his joy. A flute and a clarinet join in for the flavorful period dances and festivity scenes. Georges Delerue creates gorgeous musical portrait in finest historical idiom and colorful music for full orchestra with exotic touches.

The origin of Fortune comes from Blaise Cendrars’ novel L’Or. It is based from the true story of Johann Sutter, a Swiss merchant who sets out for America in pursuit of new beginnings. He crosses the country, setting up a number of businesses, then makes the acquisition of an immense piece of land in the west, which he christens “New Helvetia” (present day California). Bernard Dabry and Henri Colpi adapted the novel and took a number of liberties with Sutter's actual story. The action takes place in the 19th century, and takes the form of a saga played out through the great spaces of America. For the score, Georges Delerue symbolized the American Dream with a melancholic harmonica. The score is based on sweeping themes with strings and nostalgic themes to accompany Sutter’s travels across America.

In collaboration with Telfrance, Music Box Records is very pleased to present these two expanded scores newly remastered from the original session stereo (Thibaud) and mono (Fortune) master tapes.

    LE PARIA (EXPANDED) (1985)
    Original Television Soundtrack
    Music Composed by Georges Garvarentz

    New remastered expanded edition.
More than 70 minutes of music, including 25 minutes of music never released before.
CD booklet with liner notes by Gilles Loison. Limited edition of 350 units.

    Ref: MBR-069
    Release Date: July 20, 2015

In collaboration with Sony ATV, Music Box Records is pleased to present the premiere CD release of 1985 French TV series Denys de La Patellière's Le Paria composed by Georges Garvarentz (Taxi for Tobruk, The Corrupt Ones, Killer Force).

Composer Georges Garvarentz was born in Athens, Greece into a family of Armenian immigrants who travelled to Europe in search of a better life. His father, Kevork Garvarentz was a professor of literature and a poet. In 1942, the Garvarentz family moved to Paris where Georges attended the Conservatoire de Paris to broaden his musical knowledge. In 1965, he met a fellow Armenian émigré named Charles Aznavour, who proved to be his most valuable creative partner: the composer/lyricist duo went on to write over 100 popular songs together. Georges even married Charles’s sister, Aïda Aznavour. In addition to writing hundreds of songs with his partner, Georges Garvarentz also kept himself busy by penning over 150 film scores in a great variety of popular genres from adventure films to spy thrillers and romantic dramas.

Denys de La Patellière (Les Grandes Familles, Marco the Magnificent, Dear Caroline) and writer Albert Kantof wrote the story of Le Paria which stars Charles Aznavour as the leading role and Jean Topart. Julien Mauriès (Aznavour), the younger of a perfumer's family is forced to go into exile after having an unfortunate experience in the estate business. He spent 20 years in Venezuela and made a fortune in the perfume business. After all those years, he decided to come back in France in order to start again and to cleanse his honour.

Georges Garvarentz composed a very powerful symphonic score with a gorgeous, broad sweeping main theme. The score is a lovely homage to the great masters of film music he admired, such as Dimitri Tiomkin, Elmer Bernstein or even Jerry Goldsmith.
The soundtrack was previously released on LP in 1985. For this premiere release of Georges Garvarentz’s Le Paria score on compact disc, this new remastered and expanded edition presents 25 minutes of previously unreleased music. The release is limited to 350 units.

    PETIT DÉJEUNER COMPRIS (1980) • POURQUOI PAS NOUS ? (1981) • BILLET DOUX (1984)
    Three Original Television Soundtracks
Music Composed and Conducted by Vladimir Cosma

Limited Edition of 500 copies. New Remastered Edition.
More than 60 minutes of music, including 18 minutes of music never released before.
8-page CD booklet with French and English liner notes by Nicolas Magenham.

    Ref: MBR-071
    Release Date: July 20, 2015

In collaboration with Sony ATV and Larghetto Music, Music Box Records is pleased to present on CD the collaboration between Vladimir Cosma and Michel Berny : the two TV series Petit déjeuner compris (1980) and Billet doux (1984) and the feature film Pourquoi pas nous ? (1981).

An old lady’s slowly fading silhouette, set to a few notes on a melodica: such are the opening credits, marked indelibly into the memories of an entire generation of viewers, of Petit déjeuner compris. This six-episode series aired on French television became a smash success thanks notably to writing of the highest finesse by Danièle Thompson, the direction of Michel Berny, and the delectable music of Vladimir Cosma.
The main theme, based on a waltz in a moderate tempo and played on melodica, reflects the simplicity of this couple (Marie-Christine Barrault and Pierre Mondy), who inherits from an elderly aunt the management of an unusual family hotel. The original soundtrack includes other memorable catchy themes, bitter-sweet music and delicate colourings, such as that of guitar and electric piano. Petit déjeuner compris features the original LP program, previously issued in 1980 and fully remastered from the master tapes for this new edition.

Pourquoi pas nous ? relates the burgeoning and complex love of a man and a woman done no favours by life, and for whom, moreover, everything seems to stand in the way. In the main theme, two mandolins personify Marcello (Aldo Maccione), while two comedic synthesizers evoke the character of Jacqueline (Dominique Lavanant). The score is based on this instrumental duality which is also intended to accord credit to the two characters inhibited by their physical appearance and a manifestly mediocre destiny. The original score, presented for the first time on CD and remastered from the master tapes, features all the music written for the film.
This album also includes the original soundtrack to Billet doux with the same program previously released in the 2010 box set of Vladimir Cosma.

The limited edition of 500 units comes with an 8-page booklet with French and English commentary by Nicolas Magenham.

  8. New from Caldera Records (their tenth release):

Caldera Records is proud to present the original score for the television movie Maria di Nazaret from 2012, directed by Giacomo Campiotti. The two part movie was a huge success in Italy as it recounts the story of Jesus’ mother Maria and accompanies her throughout the life of the son of God until his death on the cross. Maria was played by internationally acclaimed actress Paz Vega who rose to fame after her role in the Adam Sandler movie Spanglish. The music for Maria di Nazaret was written by British composer and conductor Guy Farley (Secret Sharer, Modigliani) who delivers probably his most diverse score to date, featuring lush orchestral melodies for orchestra and choir as well as female vocals and solos for ethnic instruments, played by Tony Hinnigan (Braveheart). Additionally, we included another score by Farley on the CD: L’uomo che sognava con l’aquile was written for an extensive Italian television production with Terence Hill which gathered raving reviews after its premiere in 2006. Also, we present a bonus cue with the much beloved track Reunited from the Jean Claude van Damme movie Wake of Death which receives its premiere release here. The tenth CD-release of Caldera Records features a detailed booklet-text by Stephan Eicke and elegant artwork by Luis Miguel Rojas. The CD was produced by Stephan Eicke and John Elborg.

Well, we have a classic Golden Oldie coming in August and a HUGE project forever in the works coming in September (most likely). Let' hope they sell as well as Gunfight.

Composers from the Golden Age stated by the label to be coming in the unspecified future:

    Dimitri Tiomkin
    Franz Waxman
    Alex North
    and Erich Wolfgang Korngold

And composers who might have done scores that could have fallen in that period:
    Jerry Fielding
    Henry Mancini

  15. Thanks to an FSM member: Robert Walsh has posted this on his Facebook page:

Coming very soon! The original soundtrack that became a cult classic: "Revenge of the Ninja" from 1983. Currently being re-mastered for release.

    ...on Varese Sarabande!

Must be a re-issue of the old LP content. I recall that the tapes are missing, even a mention of being damaged beyond use. So this is either their LP to CD thing or one of their Club titles.

    EDIT:
I am very excited to announce to all those fans of the original music from Revenge of the Ninja - that the master tapes have been located, after 32 years. I am currently re-mastering them and they will soon be available on Varese Sarabande Records.

    EDIT:
MV has chimed in and said it's not LLLR's doing it.

    And he also posted:

Coming soon ... the original orchestral soundtrack recordings from many animated classics in the 1980's ...

THE LAST BOY SCOUT is intriguing. Was there a previous soundtrack release of the score?
    I am extremely serious.
  18. Not at all. Kamen wasn't exactly excited about working on the film, which he did only as a favour to Joel Silver.

  19. Somebody asks at the FSM board if there are any Jerry Fielding scores coming from Quartet Records, and the label responds and in the response drops the name of one of them early:

Yes, we still have a couple of titles, and one of them is almost ready, and very exciting too: the "Bad News Bears" trilogy on a 3-CD set, which also includes the Craig Safan and the Paul Chihara scores, all in pristine stereo.

Also, news and a big sale from the label (by the way, no new titles for August):

We have an important announcement to make: in September we will release our 199th and 200th titles! Wow! In fact, September will be a very special month for us because—in addition to these two special albums (No. 200 is a holy grail for many collectors!)—we will release brand new scores by Philippe Sarde and Alberto Iglesias.

And some BIGGER surprises are ready for the last four months of the year!

We want YOU to join in celebrating this milestone with us, so during the next two weeks we are offering a 30% DISCOUNT on all our products. Simply place your order online and 30% of your total price will be automatically deducted at checkout.

Temporarily out of stock titles are not included in the sale.

In addition, with the purchase of 6 CDs or more, we will add FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING—with a registered track number!

Please be aware that for many titles we have only very limited quantities!

Sales starts now at www.quartetrecords.com This offer expires on August, 23th

Thank you all very much—and long live film music!

  20. I loved BAD NEWS BEARS as a kid. Wouldn't miss an episode. All I remember about the music though is "Los Toreados" from Bizet's "Carmen" that will forever take me back to that show.

Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  21. DISCONTINUATION ALERT

You have until "AVAILABLE UNTIL AUGUST 24 2015 OR WHILE SUPPLIES LAST" to pick up volumes one and two of "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" from Intrada.

Arrow Disc 1 is season 3
Arrow disc 2 is Flash vs Arrow Part 2 plus some extras

  23. Neely's music for Flash is pretty solid, I'm glad to hear it's getting a release. I think it's interesting how it combines elements of Elfman's (the racing strings) and Horner's (the intimate/"genius" piano stuff) takes on Spider-Man. Not as good as either, obviously, but for a TV superhero show it's top notch.
