Great to see people saying his top 3, and not answering my question about Zimmer's best single cue.

I think we have said our Zimmer top 3 or 10 very ofte, but not his best single composition.

    anyway.... slant

I didn't answer because you used the word "best", which implies some objective truth, and that's not something any of us can supply. Had you instead asked what my favorite Zimmer cue was I would have replied "End titles" from "Driving Miss Daisy".

    1: The Thin Red Line
    2: POTC3
    3: The Da Vinci Code
  1. 1: Backdraft
    2: The Ring
    3: Regarding Henry

For me, I'd agree with Erik's mention of "Show Me Your Firetruck" as my favourite Zimmer cue. I'm listening to it now and every time I listen to it it raises goosebumps and brings tears to my eyes - and that's even without watching the movie!!

Well I guess I'm the only one but my favourite Zimmer score is
1 Pearl harbor (also his best theme)
    2 Gladiator
    3 crazy POTC 3 i guess
Seeing the Da Vinci Code so many times suprises me.

Favourite zimmer cue: Nyah from MI2, simply because I can listen to it on repeat forever.

New update. I´m surprised Prince and Backdraft are part of the Top Three, but it´s a great, very versatile Top Three, so I really like that. But I guess Ranks 2 and 3 will be contested a lot during the next days.

1st place: The Thin Red Line 17 points
2nd place: The Prince of Egypt 12 points
    3rd place: Backdraft 9 points

The DaVinci Code / Gladiator 7 points each
Beyond Rangoon / Pirates of the Caribbean - At World´s End 6 points each
    The Last Samurai 4 points
The Lion King / Pearl Harbor 3 points each
The Ring / The Rock 2 points each
Black Rain / Crimson Tide / An Everlasting Peace / King Arthur / Regarding Henry / Spanglish 1 point each

To Jordi: My favourite track is Chevalier de Sangreal from The DaVinci Code.

Jordi...my favorite cue is "I Don't Think Now Is The Best Time", the part from the wedding, not the part when the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman blow up another ship.

Hmmm... I missed that tongue I think my choices will be...

    1) King Of Pride Rock (the unedited one) from Lion King
    2) The Ten Commandments from Prince of Egypt (promo)
    3) I Don't Think Now Is The Best Time from PoTC 3

By "unedited" I mean the film version (in the OST they cut out the entire battle music including the terrific music for Simba and Scar's paw-to-paw combat).

I forgot about The Lion King. And I was only talking about albums (if we're talking about scores in the film then it would be a short list indeed from me in this topic)

Did you hear the Suites from POTC3?

So why do so many people adore "The thin red line"? I love Zimmer, but it's probably one of my least favorite scores. I do like "Journey to the line", "Stone in my heart" and that traditional song, but other than that it just seems to be droning on and on without anything really happening. It might be good music to play in the background while trying to fall asleep, but as a "foreground" listening experience I find it utterly dull and unengaging.

Hm...let's see; THE THIN RED LINE has one surprisingly natural flow of melody that starts right off the very first note and passes unstoppable down through the entire score up to the very last note. The arrangements are totally captivating through their inner purity and simplicity, largely helped by the refined by effective choice of instrumentation. The warm sound of the string orchestra engulfs the listener in an extremely emotional veil and the fragile melodic lines grab you instantly, enfolding you into their sweet sense of insobriety. The sacred tone and densely melancholic timbre of the whole work is truly singular, a work which rather feels like a complete and immensely coherent large musical work with clearly divided parts and very focused aim, very unlike the larger part of film music which does feel like music strictly created to escort visuals and comes rather disconnected on album. It's Hans' purest, most heartfelt and honest work to date, a work of true inner beauty that – personally speaking, fills my heart and soul with special feelings each time I listen to it, truly making me feeling like touching God through it.

This should be in the first place of a "top 3 sentences" of the year topic.

And this one in the second place.

Wow, Christodoulides, wish I could connect to the score as much as you. Perhaps I should see the movie again. Now that I know the score a little, and will recognize the individual cues when I hear them, it might help to hear them with the images and story they were intended for.
