Following in the footsteps of Henry Mancini and Miklos Rozsa ain't easy. But if anyone can do it, it's Alexandre Desplat. Oh.

(Having said that - Guy Ritchie is the kind of director whose films I wouldn't mind Zimmer scoring, if it keeps him off good ones.) Just kidding, Ralph. Don't shout at me.

A Holmes score needs some class from the likes of Gunning, Doyle or Wiseman. Or Desplat.
But the Guy Ritchie-Zimmer combo is interesting.
  1. The music editor on IMDB works for Arnold as of late, so I had assumed maybe Arnold's helper, Michael Price (who has been scoring as of late) was doing this. Guess I was wrong, unless of course Zimmer is a replacement.

Price used to work for Kamen before his passing.
The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else.
  2. Well, it's a basically British-funded film I guess (Sherlock Holmes? Guy Ritchie?), so they got a British music editor. I wouldn't make too much out of this.

No big deal, as Michael Price is a Hot Music guy, as Hans. I suspect Nyree Pinder and the gang at Hot Music handles the music supervision on the film?

Very interesting assignment to say the least; but i hope it's not too much like Matchstick men / the weather man / frost nixon etc etc; i think we've heard enough of that offbeat, quirky Zimmer side; it's good but it's time for something new.

Guy Ritchie isn't the kind of Weather Man/Matchstick Men quirkiness. It will be more of an actioner than anything else, if I understand his style well, pretty much plot heavy.

I'm disappointed with Ritchie. I don't know who could've done the score, but wasn't Zimmer going to take a hiatus and do some concert arrangements for some of his scores after A&D?

Guess the money was REAL good.

I read somewhere he's already working on concert arrangements.
(Joe Hisaishi can do concert tours while scoring 3 or 4 projects per year. I hope Hans can do it too wink )

Btw is there no official confirmation of he's doing the next James L. Brooks film yet?! cry

From the look of it, this version of Holmes isn't in the stereotypical Victorian vein and has quite a unique spin on the mythology. Hans probably was intrigued by that and wanted to work on it.
