I liked it! Reminds me a bit of the joker theme....

Actually it's built with all the joker theme audio materials.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  1. It actually reminds me of a weird marriage of Mission: Impossible 2, Inception and... Unstoppable.

It's his music in the trailer too, right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZJqxgR- … r_embedded

  2. I don't know, I didn't ask.

But what I learnt is that the Man of Steel trailer features his original demo and the theme isn't fully realized - they had to cut a bit of the material to fit the trailer. The only live instruments in the trailer are the drums.

No surprises but I quite liked what I heard.

  3. Hans said that this is not, as he told me, "the dark (k)night. It's about decency and hope". The theme starts from a minor key and goes to a major key. Someone else noticed a cautious and tentative character of the theme, possibly hinting at Clark Kent (Kal-El? wink ) not really being sure who he is and what should he do to be an accepted decent part of the human community. This aspect of the story (an outcast, literally alien, wanting to fit into the modern society and be a generally accepted human being) seems to be the thematic core and thus the heart of the story.

The reason then why he wanted to do something else wasn't just the fact that he didn't want to just rehash Batman. He saw the different aspect of the story and knew that Superman isn't a dark story (though they do aim for realism). There were three problems for him (though that I know from interviews) he had to tackle while writing the story:

    1. John Williams' legacy, which led him to postpone work as much as he could, though finally he did it, obviously. He has a huge respect for the Williams legacy on this one, calling the main theme one of the best ever written in the history of film music.
    2. How to write something American at heart while himself not really being a fan of Aaron Copland's Americana (though, being a classical lover that he is, I would assume he doesn't like Copland as a Hollywood cliché rather than disliking Copland himself; he complained about this Americana sound on the press conference right after receiving his Oscar back in 1995, though he did say he was personally rooting for Silvestri to win), so he decided to use some industrial effects (using metallic percussion) and country elements (an ensemble consisting of 8 lap steel guitars and a specially designed bass lap steel, which, as he told me don't "replace a string section", as CNN put it in their interview some time ago, but puts them in unison, so "the colors merge" - from what he told me yesterday).
    3. How to make it different to what he did on the Batman trilogy.

  4. Personally, what I really enjoyed was that he aimed for a major key in the main theme, which something he hasn't done for a major action project since Backdraft back in 1991.

I question how far they can really push the realism aspect given it's about a man who wears his underpants outside his tights and can fly.
  5. Well, they did take the underpants off biggrin

It's surely his. Hints of the theme heard in the title track in the official RUSH website, are to be found more evolved , in the trailer music. Good stuff, promising.

And the driving, pulsating percussive rhythm. It's really good.

    Ah fuck!

Water Tower Records will be releasing the OST for Hans Zimmer's Man Of Steel on June 11th.

There are two versions available, and they are BOTH two-disc sets

    Standard Edition:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C2U … wfancom-20

    Deluxe Edition:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C2U … wfancom-20

If this is anything like the retarded The Hobbit release then you'll have to buy the extended edition to get the bonus tracks not on the standard edition while having to also buy the standard edition to get the alternate cues that aren't on the extended edition.

What a fantastic incentive not to illegally download both and save your money. I'll have ten of each.

Despite the hair-tearing stupidity of the Hobbit albums and the fact that you have to get both albums in order to hear all the available music, I do approve of the gradual increase of 2-CD releases and the new policy of making as much music as possible commercially available on principle. Although I wish it was done the way Oblivion did it - that seems to be the best of both worlds and makes more sense than making both releases 2-CD whoppers.

  7. Either release two CDs or no physical CD at all?

    Strange days have found us
Strange days have tracked us down
    They're going to destroy
    Our casual joys
    We shall go on playing
    Or find a new town
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

Compact Disc is for Music (and short/small movie files). It is not something you eat. You shouldn't try to eat any.

I am looking forward to the movie very much and I'm curious for the score. I like what I hear in the new trailer, sounds not bad at all, so its promising.

    Hm, that's less promising...
Oh well, if I can't decide like with The Hobbit I'll just buy the one with the best Henry Cavill photos in the booklet.
