Going back to Kung Fu Panda, I think this will be an interesting listen. I wonder if we'll be able to hear differences between Powell's and Zimmer's different styles, or whether Zimmer just said "hey mate, you remember how to write like me right?".

I might lose the will to live.

Do what I'm doing and listen to Starship Troopers. You'll remember why you love film music! wink

That's why I put on JAWS 2....with the "barbed" comment biggrin wink

I haven't. I was going to say, it doesn't sound like it's going to be orchestral. There was an article about this some time ago. I think Thomas (Rudi Völler) posted it.

Na'h Casi Divas doesn't sound orchestral. It's Zimmer at his keyboard with a couple of soloists. I think you're reffering to Kung Fu Panda.

I thought you were refering to Kung Fu Panda?! dizzy biggrin

I think Zimmer and Howard have started recording the score for The Dark Knight, since there's already a conductor listed for the film at IMDB: Matt Dunkley.

I brought up last month (as I recall) over at James-Newton-Howard.com/forum that it was going to start recording in May.

Dunkley also helped in April recording Craig Armstrong's "The Incredible Hulk".

Just listened to Batman Begins for the 2nd time... I like it, but it seems to lack alot of melody. I hope
they add quite a bit of that... but with the "two note" sequence... we'll see.

Off batman, any update on Hans Zimmer's international tour? Will he be coming to the east coast?

Hans Zimmer: Madagascar - Escape 2 Africa

The Gorfaine-Schwartz Agency is now including Madagascar - Escape 2 Africa in Hans Zimmer's filmography, which is the first official confirmation of Zimmer's involvement in the project.

..."Using as our inspiration classic kung fu films, this score was an opportunity to write something truly epic again, which we don't get a chance to do that often," states Zimmer. "The music had to reflect the fabulous precision and magnificent action pieces depicted in the film, and we used a large-scale orchestra incorporating a good deal of percussion, Chinese drums and other ethnic instruments to create the various themes."

    ...

John Powell adds, "It was a great opportunity to have a play date with Hans again after all these years. We had missed the chance to collaborate and this was the perfect film to try out all the ideas we had been talking about."...

I'm sorry, but a post like that after the amazingness of the quote right above it is...wrong.

That's like if someone were to post the announcement of a new, long-lost Poledouris score, and the next post would be: "How's Glimmer Man by Trevor Rabin?"

Ok, I exaggerate. But the one time I tried to listen to Calendar Girl, it wasn't very good. However I am enormously excited for Kung Fu Panda after reading those comments.

Oooh, any more insider scoops about the score (other than the 28 cellos used for the score)? I hope JNH played a bigger role in the sequel score.
