Oh boy, oh boy. I want to like it and expect big things out of it. But there are SO many wrong things going on with this one, primarily the teaser; sigh; have you seen it? It's probably the stupidest thing i've ever seen! And the 'hey you there with the mobile phone, i see you' "joke" is simply painful.

I hope not. I wouldn´t like to hear two different scores in one. Of course that we score geeks will notice that "this track is almost by Powell", "this one is mostly by Hans", "ooh, you heard that 4-note progression? this is Powell´s!!". But I´d love to listen a score, not a mix of styles.

Well I still remember when I first watched First Knight´s trailer (god I still have nightmares regarding Richard Gere´s haircut ). But the score is top notch, one of my favourites from Goldsmith´s 90´s.
So I don´t really care about trailers; actually, I doubt I´m watching "Kung Fu Panda", honestly. But the score can be sooo tasty lick

...and the only way we would get that would be if it were written by one composer... or if both of them just have to abandon their own personalities and write in a generic way... or if one of them has to do an impression of the other one. Only one of those would be satisfying for me.

Why couldn't it end up like the Gregson-Williams / Powell collaborations? Why couldn't it be as golden as Chicken Run? There's another really silly-sounding film concept. You never know smile

He's just traumatized from working with Nolan on TDK...

Zimmer: Hey Nolan, wanna hear our great new theme?
Nolan: I told you not to write any themes!
Zimmer: But all great music has themes...*confused shrug*
Nolan: Great music is a distraction to the earthshattering works of art that are my films! You're music is just supposed to be sort of...there. We dont' want to actually HEAR it.
Zimmer: *narrows eyes* Then why did you hire two of the most expensive composers in Hollywood?
Nolan: Why, because the studio wanted your names on the poster, of course!

No offense to either aforementioned individual, I'm exaggerating of course biggrin

Well, I heard the firs score for the first time... and after the first three tracks I was like,
    "where's the melody?"
It was good, for a background score. I have to see it on screen. Does it work well with film?
    (Batman Begins that is.)

It's excellent in the film. Many times its more of a soundscape than proper MUSIC...but its an engrossing and entirely appropriate soundscape.

Totally, IMO. And I´m not a big fan of it outsude the film. But with the film, no complaint.
I´d love a big theme (or a more developed one) in TDK though.

That's what I was thinking. It fits the screen... but not so well as a release. I enjoyed it, but
really felt the melody-lack. Just one or two... please ... in TDK !

The official Kung Fu Panda website has now some background music, apparently from the score.

It's fun and has interesting orchestration, but nothing special. And a little bit tiring how it constantly changes tempi and styles. Interested to hear the whole score though.

He did ''additional'' music and arranging in the early days, but how does that make him a clone? He successfully created his own sound. I rarely ever think ''boy, that sounds like Media Ventures!'' when listening to a Powell score. smile
