Nice article on IHT with a bio and quotes-
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2009/02/ … Rahman.php
Zimmer on ARR-
"I kept hearing his music and really liking it ... there was a fresh sound and a fresh approach ... and a completely different way of looking at film music," said Rahman's friend, the German-born film composer Hans Zimmer. "Like any good artist, A.R. is not a traditionalist, he's a revolutionary. He uses all the revolutionary things that come from all over the world in his stuff ... hip-hop beats, electronics .... and there's an incredible inquisitiveness and playfulness in his music ... .
"Plus he writes a bloody good tune," said Zimmer, an Oscar-winner for his score to "The Lion King." "He's got the most perfect love theme ("Latika's Theme") in 'Slumdog Millionaire' which I am incredibly envious of in a loving way."
Interesting. Thanks! -

I wonder if the people here who profess to hate Slumdog this much have actually LISTENED to it properly, or if it's just a knee-jerk reaction to all the praise, critical acclaim and success a non-traditional score has been receiving.
I've heard it. Numerous Times. Any fresher and better arguments now, perhaps?Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

I'm no fan of Bollywood/Indian style music like that. So I very much doubt I'd like it which is why I'm in no rush to give it a listen.

Only if you think Bollywood composers are a race.

I doubt I'll see the film thouhg. From reviews it appears to be your average feel-good flick.

I don't know about any fuss, as all this oscar mayhem doesn't interest me much. But I think it sounds catchy, charming and quite Bollywoody, and those dancing chicks certainly make it worthwhile.

I was interested to read this in the article:
"...Rahman, instead, is an alchemist of sounds and voices, mixing and melting them in a potion that is usually a joy for the ear and soul..."
Maybe there should be the reintroduction of a category for something like "original/adapted songs in a motion picture". I've listened to some of the clips from Slumdog Millionaire and it seems to be mostly songs. Is there much of an actual score? The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Not that much. About 20-25 minutes probably. Several of the songs are used as score, really. -
