I can't speak for James but, in my experience, companies can have a myriad of different (specialised) applications on their PCs that are dependant upon which version of a browser is being used. Before a new browser can be adopted company-wide, testing of all the applications using the candidate browser needs to be done.

I know that when I used a more recent version of IE some applications didin't work for me and I had to revert back to IE6.

    yeah

    Happens in many major companies.
Shell is also still on IE6 for that very reason.

  2. It sucks we still have to use IE6 at work, because Youtube isn't working anymore. That's like the only form of entertainment we have and it's gone. angry

No. They promise that a new browser is coming later this year for us. Lots of people have requested Firefox but they have said no, it's too difficult to make compatible with the various web-based software which is used in the business.

Yes, the keynote was today at MIX in Las Vegas.

    IE9 looks good! punk

Bad news though: Windows Mobile 7 will include a browser that's somewhere in between IE6 and IE7. face-palm-mt

  5. Bregt actually liking Bill's browser?

Eeeexactly. There's apple-haters, pc-haters and there's people in-between. Who're objective and simply like good stuff whenever they come regardless of who makes them, and similarly hate bad stuff when it arrives from one direction as well. Not everyone has to be on the edges wink I am with Bregt too. It looks very interesting.

But that doesn't mean it's going to be better than the other, current ones. By the time IE9 is officially released, Firefox and Chrome probably will have passed the phase IE9 is now in.

What sucks is that you need at least Vista Service Pack 2 for the preview. rolleyes

Windows 7 is very good so far, when the service pack is released, it will be much improved too. There's no reason to have a previous version of windows, the way i see it.

Windows 7 works better and faster than any other version of Windows so far, Martijn. The problem, which will be solved with the service pack i am sure, is with some professional firewire audio cards and generally professional peripherals but that only concerns a very specialized and limited target group anyway.

I felt the opposite when MS-DOS had to make room for Windows 3.1. wink

I forgot to mention my machine is seven years old.
It is still well up to speed for anything I want it to do, but I'm sure that when I get to acquire new hardware, Windows 7 will be far better suited than XP is now.
