  1. You think they care, really? As long as they get their money, the quality doesn't matter!

Well if the soundtrack doesn't sell well and gets not-too-good reviews, probably it does matter! tongue
  2. But it's a Harry Potter soundtrack, Ravi. If they have the books and the movie, 80% will get the soundtrack just for completion's sake.

Yup, I know that. But it's notable that the Warner execs were not the ones because of whom Williams left the series. Williams left in favour of Spielberg's projects and later David Yates said he would direct only if he was allowed to bring Hooper and editor Mark Day (who did a pretty poor job of editing IMO) with him.

But now as Hooper has been confirmed not to return, I certainly hope WB are considering Williams because of, you know, helping the last part of the series get a big treatment. They're certainly hiring big names like Bill Nighy just for small cameos. At least the producer said they're talking with JW.
  3. Well, OK. Spielberg DID produce Memoirs of a Geisha, but what made Williams score that movie (and that's why he passed on Goblet) was the fact that he loved the book so much that he wanted to score it at all costs. It wasn't Munich or War of the Worlds that year, it was Geisha smile

I did read Williams put in an incredible amount of effort for Geisha. And it's indeed a lovely score! smile
  4. Williams did a lot in spotting. He basically told Marshall which scenes should be scored even if the director wanted them silent. Marshal was very positive about his collaboration on that one.

    How's the film?
  5. Not too bad, actually. Not as good as Chicago was, but I rather enjoyed it. The acting is amazing. Of course there was the controversy that Japanese characters are played by Chinese actresses (Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li...), but that's bullshit. I've heard there WAS a Japanese casting call, but nobody came.

Will check it out sometime. smile
  6. Yeah, good to see once, will have to think whether I'll want to buy it on DVD. Apollo 13 and Charlie Wilson's War are on their way to my place now. (I bought it because I badly want Apollo).

Today I will see ET in the cinema! smile

One of the most beautiful and emotional scores ever by Williams! I've yet to see the film though.
  7. It's very good. Inspired many directors to become ones!

John Williams' theme for ET is one of the most perfect melodies ever created by any human being if you ask me.

You can throw composer's names around all you want... let's give it to Rachel Portman... but you do have to take a step back and look at which one makes sense. Why would Yates work with Zimmer when he already has established a relationship with Hooper. The only other composer that would be consider would be John Williams because Hooper is willing to step aside to let Williams and Williams only score the final film.

Agreed. Whatever be the case, i want John Williams to compose final part of Harry Potter.

I know, but day by day, my burning desires grows very wilder. I am eagerly waiting for official announcement. If Maestro don't return, then i will be highly disappointed and also lose my mood to watch the final HP film. God and Warner, please bring him back....

Be patient... I think the official announcement for the composer will probably come this fall (around September or October).

I strongly recommend to you if you love John Williams' music. From track no.1 to 15, it will never make you dull or boring, in fact, most of the JW works are like that. But this one is truly masterpiece. Don't miss it.

Is anyone paying attention to the new Williams pieces premiered recently? I heard the viola concerto in late May when I visited Boston, and now he has premiered a new concert suite from E.T. which includes an extraordinary expansion of the "E.T. Alone" opening music. Its all on youtube in "listenable" quality.

Fast forward to 3.09 to hear the rewritten section.
