    listen to more classical music!
  2. My nice of twelve years got a clarinette today. A beginner's quality instrument by a German manufacturer. She has been playing the piano for four year now. She's quite good really. For some month now she developed the idea of playing a second instrument that she could carry around with her. She visited a music house in Cologne today with her parents. (The family lives in Munich but they stey with my parents for the hollydays, as I do.) She got a free lesson at the store and I was astonished of what fine sounds she was able to produce when they came back home. She is so happy now.
Her parents, her grandparents and me, we all have pooled some funds. I feel like a stockholder. cheesy
    I'm happy for her.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

I've heard it's not all that well written. Perhaps it has caught on due to the subject matter, rather than the talent of the author.

No, I haven't. I've read bad things about it though. Comments like yours actually. Really badly written and only succesful because of the hype, etc. And I've seen a lot of jokes about it, let's see if I can find them...

I haven't, Timmer. But perhaps I should. My grandfa.... girlfriend says it unfortunately never gets really naughty, and that the sequels have uninteresting sub plots and are rather tame.

Bregje, I'm not sure I'd just dismiss it as hype. I do think that the books, poorly written and tame as they may be, do appeal to so many because these fantasies are so widespread among women but are often so repressed as well. Regardless of the quality of the writing, I do think it's positive if it challenges self-imposed and meaningless restrictions and gets people to become more honest with themselves and their partners.

Jokes are very welcome though. cheesy

I agree. Reminds me of the porn for women, which is a good thing because fantasies can be very different. I read a book on sexual fantasies once. It's two books, one about men's fantasies and one about women's fantasies and the differences between male and female thinking were fascinating as well as the similarities. But what would your girlfriend call the Grey books: pulp or erotic literature or a drama novel or ...?

That's also a comparison I'd find very interesting, though I haven't really read all that much about it yet. Do you remember what the books were called?

I think my girlfriend would call it erotic literature, or perhaps use a phrase like porn for women, even though she says it has way too little porn. She likes though that there's such an emphasis on the emotional aspects of the relationship between Anastasia and Grey, which I also think is a big reason for the books' success.

I suspect that women's sexualities and fantasies deep down are about as strong and as pervy as men's, but they're expressed in very different and often more subtle and indirect ways. Perhaps partly because society has higher expectations of women when it comes to sexual morality, and this causes greater repression in women than men. So perhaps a minor sexual revolution is needed, and perhaps that's what's currently happening...

I'll take a look into the books. Perhaps it wasn't so much about fantasies, I remember it was actually a huge collection of fantasies (by real people) put together in the book with some theory and explanation in each chapter. Both an interesting and exciting read.
    wink

Mostly known, what they always say, is that men are more visual and women more emotional which isn't a contradiction at all of course. From my own experience it is true that a man's fantasy is visual and filled with highly practical details while mine can even be an abstract experience, more the feeling indeed and using all senses. Well, enough I guess for the public forum.
    smile

The 'jokes', at least I thought it was funny:

    Here's one

Here's another one I saw once with the comment "I found my moms copy of Fifty Shades of Grey. I DO NOT want to know what the bookmarks mean!!"

Sounds very interesting and exciting indeed. wink Btw, I recommend the movie Kinsey, if you haven't seen it already. About this very subject.

What you say about men and women fits with my experiences as well. Men tend to be simpler somehow with more specific fantasies, while women are often more complex and abstract. But there's no doubt a lot of overlap so trying to divide into separate categories might be difficult.

    Haha, funny jokes! biggrin

I also quite like this one. A funny facebook status. And an outfit that can't fail.

Very true. One of my favourite things about MT. If a message board could be diagnosed with ADHD, it would be this one.

Speaking of which, I have a man-crush on Benedict Cumberbatch, religion sucks and I quite like cornflakes.
