A few of you know that my family's been going through some tough times this year, including a shock cancer diagnosis for my wife at the start of the year. Well we found out recently that it appears to have all gone and - like many other people - while she'll be going for regular tests, for the moment she has been given the all clear. The relief is so monumental.
Now, let's hope the other stuff reaches such a satisfying conclusion.

I wasn't aware that you were going through that (I think you mentioned you were going through some difficult stuff, but I didn't realize it was that serious). But that must be such an incredible relief now. Hope things continue to look up! -

I goddamn hope so James. This is the first I've heard of this. Can I ask what kind of cancer she had?On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Glad to hear of the good news James. I'd suspected that something was up from the occasional comments you have made on social media but never dreamed that it was something so serious. Best wishes to you all and here's hoping the remainder of the year brings further good news. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Thanks Tim (and everyone). It was in her appendix, which I think is quite unusual. They took her appendix out and said in most cases it does not tend to spread from there but they thought it may have been in her stomach as well. After lots and lots of tests (and anxious waiting) they think it isn’t in her stomach after all. So hopefully all good now. Rather worryingly she has lost absolutely loads of weight over the last year or so, for no obvious reason, but they seem to think everything should be all right now.
Now we can focus on our daughter who just isn’t developing properly (intellectually - she’s fine physically). Desperately hoping it’s just a case of her being slow (very slow) and she will catch up eventually, but it’s just not happening at the moment. Getting a bit fed up of hearing “oh my aunt’s friend’s grandson stared vacantly at his thumb till he was seven and now he’s a nuclear physicist” and variants on that. I know people mean well but it’s hard, it really is. She might have some form of autism, which of course can mean a very wide range of things, nobody really knows what’s wrong. -

I'm far from being a specialist for this but due to inclusion we "normal" teachers now have to concern ourselves with developmental disorders. May I ask how old your daughter is? Does the development of speech seem to be affected? Does she herself perceive her being different in comparison with other kids? As you know of course there is a wide spectrum of possible reasons for such disorders beyond autism.
I don't mean to intrude or to attempt some half assed telediagnosis. Just answer if you fell like it. Stay strong!

Today I moved to Norwich to start a degree course in Aviation Engineering with KLM and the University of East Anglia. Yes, I kept that quiet. But now I’m here.
It was a decision I made at the last second after my (overly) dramatic downward spiral from grace this time last year but one that I hope will get me back on an auspicious start for the future. -

I had a similar epiphany and I'm now studying maths and physics. If there's any advice I can give after my first year, it's make sure you know the structure of the course, its learning outcomes and the assessments for each module well before you actually start.
Seriously.
Find as much as you can about the course before you actually start.
Oh, and be a nerd and go to the library. It's your new home. -

Good to hear that you've managed to turn your life around, Lee. I'm currently at the darkest and lowest place of my entire life due to various personal circumstances, so it's inspiring to hear your turnaround story.I am extremely serious. -

I'm really sorry to hear that Thor. If you want to share please do, even if no one here can help in any way it's good to share and get things off your chest even if all you get in return is sympathy and understanding.
And, obviously, everyone here would respect you if you want to keep things private.
Either way you have my best wishes old* friend.

Thanks, guys. I've been getting professional help for a while, which helps. But back to Lee:
Lee -- have you always had a passion for airplanes, or was this some newfound interest?I am extremely serious. -

I have, yes. From when I was very very young. The obvious career path for a young lad who loves planes is to become a pilot, obviously. When that passed I never really gave much thought to any other career within the industry. Until now.
