Who invented the word scoregasm. Which applies to this score, Jupiter Ascending.

I imagine it's one of those self-evident words, so no one in particular. It is a fine score... I just wish it had a proper bloody theme.

I've been playing a bit with the themes actually. I downloaded musescore last week, put the theme in and tried to figure out something nice for the left hand (talking about piano) but I need some more help with that. The brass is wonderful in 3rd movement.

It's not a "scoregasm" for me but it is a bloody good score.

Perhaps I'm going to try to work on the sheet music some more. It's fun and educational. Besides, no one has made a piano cover yet of Jupiter Ascending. Mine should be easy, I started lessons in september.

So after hearing how hot Giacchino is right now, how excited are we for Jurassic World? biggrin And Tomorrowland?? Inside Out could certainly be good too. This has the potential to be one of the strongest years by a composer in the entire 2000s. I'm so glad he finally got his recording quality issues sorted so his music can really shine now.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

I'm worried more than excited, to be honest -- especially after JUPITER ASCENDING, which once again cemented my distaste for the composer. It's a shame, because I feel so closely connected to the JURASSIC PARK universe, I don't want anything bad to happen to it. But there are disconcerting elements now both in the way it's conceptualized and in the score assignment. Hopefully, both will surprise me in a positive sense.
    I am extremely serious.

I was speaking to people who actually enjoy symphonic film music wink

Seriously though, I can understand where you're coming from. I am in awe of Jupiter Ascending but my tastes didn't always go in that direction. I disliked the score for Independence Day when I first watched the film, FFS. And Jupiter Ascending isn't in that league.

And as a Jurassic Park fan, I do see the potential fail looming on the horizon but honestly I'm just happy to finally get a new film with an interesting new direction. I was such a desperate fan I was googling "Jurassic Park 4" seven years ago trying to find the smallest scraps of information and eventually I practically gave up on it ever happening. At least we know this new one has to be better than III anyway smile

Oh, I'm with you on that last point. I'm so totally STARVED for more JP -- it's been 14 friggin' years, after all -- that I will tolerate a lot of crap just to be able to explore that universe again.

But I do like JP III a lot, so there we disagree again! smile

I don't dislike it. It just sort of fails to capture the spirit of mystery and awe and delicious terror from the first two films. So I guess you're right, JW could fail at that even worse, although that would be a pretty big disaster considering the expressed love for JP of those involved.

If JURASSIC WORLD has failures it won't be because of a damned fine symphonic composer named Michael Giacchino.

Man, I can't believe some people don't like this score or think it's mediocre...
It's orchestral bliss and thematically great.

I think a case could be made that it's the best all-around work of Giacchino's career. To me there is nothing approaching the melodic beauty of Lost, but Lost was a lot less varied than this score.

Here is my 1-CD Jupiter Ascending playlist, never a dull moment! In fact it's one of the most consistently entertaining 80 minutes I've ever heard in a single album. I'm starting to feel like this is very close to Star Wars level composing. Not there, mind you, but closer than anyone has come in quite a while. The themes grow on me more than most Giacchino works.

    1) Flying Dinosaur Fight With Guts
    2) I Hate My Life
    3) The Abrasax Family Tree
    4) The Shadow Chase
    5) The Titus Clipper
    6) It's a Helluva Chase
    7) Family Jeopardy
    8) Abdicate This!
    9) Flying Dinosaur Fight
    10) Commitment
    11) 1st Movement
    12) 2nd Movement
    13) 3rd Movement
    14) 4th Movement
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!
