Thanks Martijn! I scrambled to find stuff I haven't played on the other two shows! Thank goodness for kind composers who send me their work and for iTunes' search function. wink But I think I'm screwed for next year. tongue

  1. Great to hear. Quite a different kettle of fish to Elliot Goldenthal's vision of the THE TEMPEST. I wouldn't mind seeing a version of DESOLATION OF SMAUG with that music tracked over key scenes.

  2. Another worthy contender. I love the way those jazz soloists float over the rest of the ensemble. It's a great combination when a composer fuses ideas like that.

  3. A fine choice! Both fine choices so far, though Tyler's score didn't do as much for me (other than the excellent "Can You Dig It?").

I loved the theme (not can you dig it but the actual theme) when I first heard it and pretty much played it every day for the next two week... sometimes on a continuous loop. I also dug the rest of the score on CD but it really came to life in the ridiculously entertaining film where Tyler's music just fit perfectly with the film's tone. And to hear an old school styled super hero theme come to life in a present day comic book film was refreshing... as it was in The Avengers whenever Silvestri's theme popped up.

  4. The film was quite good. And it was nice to have a proper theme for Iron Man finally. I would assume that, should Tyler score Avengers 2 (do we know he is yet?), he would reuse themes for Iron Man and Thor? That would be cool.

Cant' assume that at all actually. Who knows was excuse they will use not to use those themes.

  6. That's a nice score. It's in my top 10, too. Wallfisch had a prolific and varied year. Didn't he used to orchestrate for Marianelli? You get a sense of that with SUMMER IN FEBRUARY, i think.

It's a wonderful score, on the 9th place of my own list. So far, I share three picks with Erik's list (although in different spots).
    I am extremely serious.
  7. Not to hijack the discussion, but I'm curious how this score can be bought. Australian iTunes doesn't appear to have it. (HELEN OF TROY is another one I keep my eyes open for, and can't seem to find.)
A butterfly thinks therefore I am
  8. "Helen"? Steiner or Goldsmith?
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  9. Oops, meant Queen of Carthage! (Got my legendary wires crossed.)
