    WROCK RADIO EPISODE #5


    On episode five of CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO ON WROCK we will be playing music from two brand new film scores. The show opens up with new music by Hanan Townshend from the film KNIGHT OF CUPS. You’ll also hear selections from Richard Harvey and Hans Zimmer’s delightful and imaginative score to THE LITTLE PRINCE.

    Our John Williams album of the week comes from Williams’ 1996 TRUMPET CONCERTO commissioned by the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. Our re-recording of the week is Intrada Records’ brilliant TWELVE CHORUSES featuring music from BEN-HUR and KING OF KINGS composed by Miklos Rozsa. Our video game score of the week is Michael Land’s brilliant score to the mid-90’s sci-fi adventure, THE DIG. You’ll also hear selections from Guy Van Neuten’s score to MILO from the album MUSIC FOR A SMALL ORCHESTRA.

    And we’ll end the program with our Easter themed end title suite featuring music from Alfred Newman’s THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD and John Debney’s THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.

You’ll also hear music by Spanish composer Victor Reyes from the television series, THE NIGHT MANAGER. And Ye Xiaogang and Chad Cannon score the Chinese war epic, THE CAIRO DECLARATION.

    Our John Williams album of the week comes from Williams’ 1976 score to Alfred Hitchcock’s final film, FAMILY PLOT. Our Golden Age score of the week, as voted by YOU, is La La Land Records’ release of THE EGYPTIAN by Alfred Newman and Bernard Herrmann.     Our John Williams album of the week comes from the 1985 Steven Spielberg anthology TV series AMAZING STORIES – we’ll be playing selections from the episode THE MISSION. Our Golden Age score of the week is Dimitri Tiomkin’s iconic score to the 1956 film, GIANT. Our video game score of the week is Lorne Balfe’s fantastic score to BEYOND TWO SOULS. Our re-recording of the week, as voted by YOU, is Bernard Herrmann’s classic score to Alfred Hitchcock’s NORTH BY NORTHWEST featuring conductor Joel McNeely and the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra

Rachel Portman’s inspiring score to RACE and Edward Shearmur’s groovy music for ELIVS & NIXON will also be featured. Plus, Jason Graves’ new score to FAR CRY PRIMAL will be our video game score of the week.

    Our John Williams album of the week is one of his earliest gems, HEIDI released in 1968. We open the film music vault and pull out Bronislau Kaper’s fabulous swashbuckling adventure score to QUENTIN DURWARD released in 1955.. Our re-recording of the week is dedicated to the late Henry Mancini whose birthday would have been on April 16th. We’ll hear selections from two Cincinnati Pops Orchestra albums featuring conductor Erich Kunzel; MANCINI’s GREATEST HIT and STAR TRACKS II featuring music from THE PINK PANTHER, THE WHITE DAWN and LIFEFORCE.

    And we’ll end the program with a special tribute to the music of Prince, who passed away on April 21st. We’ll play “Batdance” from his 1989 album inspired by the film BATMAN. We’ll also hear music from the last ever Academy Award winning song score, PURPLE RAIN. We’ll play the title song from that album to end off the program.

    After a 13 month hiatus CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO’s “In The Spotlight” segment returns with a special two hour tribute to one of the greatest orchestras in the United States, The Utah Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra, founded in 1940, is celebrating their 75th year during their 2015-2016 season. To honour that momentous occasion we here at CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO proudly present music from some of the Utah Symphony’s film music themed albums.

    This is the 10th episode of our new two hour CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO format and this show might very well be the best one we’ve produced so far.     Last week CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO presented an all new two-hour episode dedicated to the late, great film composer James Horner. This week, and to stick with our theme from last week’s program of presenting lesser known Horner scores. we’ll be playing music from eight film scores and one concert worrk. You’ll hear music from one of Horner’s very first scores, BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS, all the way through to his last, THE 33. As mentioned, you’ll also hear a lengthy suite from a concert work James Horner composed for violinist and cellist Mari and Hakon Samuelsen called PAS DE DEUX.

    Our re-recording of the week comes from the film THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD released in 1951 featuring an original score by Dimitri Tiomkin. Charles Gerhardt conducts the National Philharmonic.

    Our video game score of the week is STARCRAFT II: WINGS OF LIBERTY featuring the music of Russell Brower, Glenn Stafford, Derek Duke, Neal Acree, Sascha Dikiciyan and Cris Velasco.

    And our film music vault selection is David Arnold’s brilliant score to the 1996 film INDEPENDENCE DAY. We’ll feature a lengthy suite at the end of the program, which will include Arnold’s spectacular end credit cue.
