BRAND NEW EPISODE OF THE CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST

    ALL REQUEST SHOW #1
    http://www.cinematicsound.net/the-flag- … st-show-1/

Erik Woods presents the first ALL REQUEST SHOW since 2004 on today’s new episode of THE FLAGSHIP SHOW on the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST.

Since launching the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST Patreon a few months ago, we’ve offered our patrons exclusive perks based on the tier they signed up for. One of those perks is participating in all request programs.

All Request Shows were a norm for CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO back on the FM dial between 1996 and 2006. They were some of my favourite shows. It gave my listeners a chance to participate in the programming of the show and was always a special program to produce. It’s been 17 years since the last all-request show so as a perk for some of our patrons we are now bringing back the all-request show on a bi-monthly basis. If you want to participate in future all-request shows, please head over to our Patreon page, and join the community in any tier that is $5 USD/month or above. Once you do so you will be able to participate in all upcoming all request programs.

For this premiere all-request program, our participants included Max Hamulyak, Dave Williams, Victor Field, Don Mase, Alphonse Brown, Douglas Lacey, Williams Welch, Alan Rogers, Tim Burden and Joe Wiles. They requested tracks from such composers as Rachel Portman, John Powell, Ron Grainer, James Horner, John Barry, John Paesano, Hans Zimmer, David Newman, Jane Antonia Cornish and Bear McCreary. Let me tell you, the playlist is fantastic! Sure, some selections come from big blockbusters but there are other selections that come from more obscure fare. And one cue was from a score I had never heard before.

With that being said, I hope you all enjoy the program. This was easily one of the most enjoyable shows I’ve produced in years. Again, for those that didn’t get a chance to participate and want to be a part of October’s all-request program, we’d love to have you join the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST Patreon family. But don’t feel like you have to join. I’m not forcing anyone to join. Remember this podcast will always be free to listen to but if you want to support the program and join the community we’ve formed on Patreon then we’d love to have you.

    Enjoy the show!

BRAND NEW EPISODE OF THE CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST

VARESE SARABANDE CD CLUB - PART ONE
    http://www.cinematicsound.net/the-flag- … ub-part-1/

In today’s episode of THE FLAGSHIP SHOW on the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST, Jason Drury joins Erik Woods to talk about and listen to music from Varese Sarabande Records latest three batches of CD club releases.

Varese Sarabande CD Club began in the late ’80s which was a mail-order CD club of great film scores not otherwise available on compact disc. It wasn’t until 1989 did we get to see the first release. In the first batch of releases, which came out between 1989 and 1992, we got to finally hear on CD for the first time such scores as CHERRY 2000, FEDORA, VIBES, RED SONJA, RAGGEDY MAN, STAR N BARS, THE BURBS, WE’RE NO ANGELS, JAGGED EDGE and others for the first time on CD.

In part one of this two-part show, you’ll hear selections from THE MATRIX by Don Davis, KNOWING by Marco Beltrami and LOVE FIELD by Jerry Goldsmith. You’ll also hear a surprise end credit suite at the end of the program.

We want to thank Yavar Moradi from the Goldsmith Odyssey Podcast for his assistance with the program today.

    Enjoy!

BRAND NEW EPISODE OF THE CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST

VARESE SARABANDE CD CLUB - PART TWO
    http://www.cinematicsound.net/the-flag- … -part-1-2/

In today’s episode of THE FLAGSHIP SHOW on the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST, Jason Drury joins Erik Woods to present part two of their look at Varese Sarabande Records’ latest three batches of CD club releases.

In part two, you’ll hear selections from DANTE’S PEAK by John Frizzell with themes by James Newton Howard, PAYCHECK by John Powell and LIONHEART by Jerry Goldsmith. You’ll also hear a surprise suite at the end of the program from one of the earliest releases in the Varese Sarabande CD Club back in the late 80s.

In addition, during the LIONHEART segment, I recommended that you all listen to the LIONHEART episode of THE GOLDSMITH ODYSSEY. It’s one of their very best episodes where they do a deep dive into all of the missing music and the numerous themes Goldsmith composed for the film. Check it out HERE!

    Enjoy!

  1. That was a thoroughly enjoyable time Erik!

Seemed a bit weird though having a Zoom chat where we didn't talk about what we were drinking.

Was I the ONLY one drinking alcohol?

A few weeks ago I was interviewed by Frank R Wilson for his soundtrack podcast, WHAT'S THE SCORE.

Frank gave me the opportunity to talk about my life, my work, my podcast, and tell some deeply personal stories. I was also allowed to bring a few personal tracks along to play on the program.

I hope you enjoy the show, as well as the music and the stories behind why I brought them to the show.

This interview was very different from most of the others I've been a part of and I just want to thank Frank for inviting me to be a guest on his show and for allowing me to be so open and candid. Frank truly made me feel welcome on his program and I hope I can return the favour soon.

    Until then, enjoy the show!

He also brought some music along with him… all of the tracks were from Sports Themed Films. JOHN WILLIAMS 90TH BIRTHDAY SPECIAL – PART ONE
    http://www.cinematicsound.net/john-will … -part-one/

On February 8, 2022, composer John Williams turns 90 years old. To honour one of the greatest film composers of all time THE CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST is proud to present a mammoth six-part podcast series dedicated to the five-time Academy Award winner.

You might actually be familiar with this series already. I produced a similar series back in 2012 to celebrate Williams’ 80th birthday. While that show was successful, I felt that it could be approved upon and updated. So, I’ve used John Williams’ birthday as an excuse to completely revamp the series by re-editing the scripts, re-recording all the dialogue and completely re-editing the shows. In addition, I will be producing a brand new sixth part to cover the years 2013-2021, which will launch on John Williams birthday, February 8, 2022. A lot of effort and time went into producing this new version of the series and I hope you enjoy the results.

In part one of this special, we will be presenting an overview of “Johnny” Williams’ work spanning 1961-1969 including such television shows as CHECKMATE, LOST IN SPACE, THE TIME TUNNEL, LAND OF THE GIANTS and THE GHOSTBREAKER. We will also be presenting music from some of Williams’ earliest film work including DIAMOND HEAD, HOW TO STEAL A MILLION, NONE BUT THE BRAVE, HEIDI, GOODBYE MR. CHIPS, THE REIVERS and much more.

SCORED TO DEATH RADIO: PROFONDO GOBLIN: A HISTORY, PART 1 – THE SOUNDTRACKS 1975-1977
    http://www.cinematicsound.net/scored-to … 1975-1977/

In 1975, one of Italy’s biggest and most innovative filmmakers asked a group of unknown young musicians to record the score for his latest film and forever altered the course of film music. The filmmaker was Dario Argento, the film was DEEP RED [a.k.a. PROFONDO ROSSO], and the musicians were a progressive rock band named Goblin.

Now, SCORED TO DEATH RADIO host & author J. Blake Fichera takes listeners on a detailed sonic journey through the music and history of one of Italy’s and film music’s most influential bands, with an epic multi-part podcast series about Goblin. This debut episode explores the band’s humble beginnings—how they formed, how they got their name, how they came to work on film scores, etc.—and dives deep into their film and television soundtracks from 1975 through 1977—including DEEP RED and SUSPIRIA.

So, pull up a seat, and get comfy with a glass of J&B because SCORED TO DEATH RADIO is setting sail on a fantastic voyage into 1970s Italy with the band Goblin.

  4. Just started listening to Part 1, Erik! I always look forward to hearing your favorites each year, because I discover something wonderful that I hadn't heard before! Thanks for putting in so much time gathering them all in one place!

And I totally agree with you about boycotting the Oscars this year. I normally watch and love making a whole party (and competition with ballot results) out of it, but not this year! I couldn't believe they dissed all the most interesting categories (and artists!) by not televising them. Hoping they do better and bring them back next year!
  5. Awesome selections Erik!
While my favorites of what I heard in 2021 were Superman & Lois, Jungle Cruise, and The Last Duel, I may have to add Tale of The Sleeping Giants to that list now! I was instantly enthralled! My favorite new one I heard from your show, thanks for introducing me to Panu Aaltio!

Now, off to listen to Thor's list - then take a look at Alan's!
