    From conductor Nick Ingram's website:

On the film front, I was very happy to work again with top Hollywood composer, James Newton Howard on a new film, "Defiance", starring Daniel Craig.

The harrowing film tells the true story of the Warsaw Ghetto in World War Two, and how many of the inmates survived by building a secret community in the woods, undetected by the Nazis for almost four years. The wonderful score which I conducted was enhanced by the brilliant violin playing of Joshua Bell, who was truly inspirational. and drew gasps of admiration from the string players in the orchestra with his dazzling technique.

Sounds like another Schindler's List. Would love to hear JNH's take on it!! biggrin

    Sounds promising.

I'm a sucker for these kind of films but I have to say that there are so many other great and un-told stories from WWII, so much of it seems to centre on Jews and the holocaust etc etc, I want someting different.

p.s. The Warsaw Ghetto has already been handled brilliantly by Polanski in The Pianist.

I'd be much more excited if JNH was scoring an up-coming BBC production about a U-Boat that accidently sinks a Red Cross ship but then goes on to rescue as many survivors as possible with the captain going against high command orders, this true story is written by the brillant Alan Bleasdale.

Speaking of myself, I LOVE JNH's string-based cues and soft emotional stuff as well. King Kong proved that for me!! punk

Sounds interesting, but as far as I heard BBC only hires British composers for obvious reasons.

I know, extremely unlikely JNH would compose a full score for a British TV production even though this will be of the highest quality.

There's about a two minute clip of what I'm assuming is Howard's score up on the official Defiance website. Just be sure to pause the trailer to hear it all.

Gnomeo and Juliet is the Elton John Disney project that has been in the works for ages, but in 2006 Disney said that they weren't going to produce the film.... obviously, things have changed!

An interesting aspect of this is that JNH was a keyboard player in Elton John's band for many years - old friends united!
