    Not in Rush Hour 1 & 2 though. And The Forbidden Kingdom at least attempts to show him back to his former self.

    I started to watch his old school movies back in 1987... at that time only "hard core" kung fu movie buffs knew about him. (I was a friend of a Chinese guy, and started to watch these movies at his home)

    Sadly Jacky Chan is too old now to pull of his old stuff, and all his new movies suck due to the following reasons:

    Lame stunts (reasons; too old, and when the movies are shot outside of Hong Kong, no insurance company want to cover him when he really want to do some old school stuff. So what do we get, lame stuff with wires.

    Lame movies to start with. He want to keep his "friendly guy next door" status, which is good of course, but as a result he will end up in very dumb kid movies. Fact is, he is a bad actor, but a likeable one though.

    Please give me the old stuff, the nicely choreographed old school kung fu movies, like the Drunkenmaster, Fearles Hyana en Snake in the Eagles Shadow. Movies where they don't use wires, or confusing close up flurry of fists/feets nonsense, but use wide angle, steady shots - which show everything clearly and without any confusion. (like the original Drunkenmaster for example)

    These movies are dumb too, but in a cool way, and the fighting is really skilfull (albeit unrealistic) but at least its without wires, and without those really uncool wirework nonense, flying stuff.

    ps. I practised kungfu from 1988 - 2000. White Eyebrow Style.

    ... and I "met" him a few times while I worked in a hotel in Hong Kong. Quite fun.

  7. I've only discovered his HK stuff a couple of years ago. My first time I saw him at work was in 'Rumble in the Bronx', and I saw most of his US films after that, remaining unfamiliar with his HK style. While the fighting is always great in those old HK movies, the stories and what's going on outside of the fighting always has a tendency to put me to sleep. It's the same old thing every time: the storyline is written around the fighting and stunts and it always results in ridiculous story developments and unneeded characters trying to fill up the plot holes. But when the action is great, it's all a martial arts fan needs. And Jackie has done some stupendously incredible things in his day. The last really great action I saw him do was in 'New Police Story', which had an allright story as well, and it showed him doing something else than his usual likeable comedy antics.

    And Talos, I can imagine 'meeting' an idol is always fun. beer

    He just held on as long as he could, cause he was too afraid to let go... so then his hands just slipped due to the gravity and he fell. (3 times!)

    ps. My heart was banging like hell when I met him. Didn't say anything though to him, just "good afternoon" and then I escorted him.. I just let these people in peace without nagging them.

    If you watch those stunts in such rapid succession, you can't help but think the man is clearly insane, borderline suicidal. But in fact these are all meticulously prepared, still to pull them off like he does, requires someone of a wimp-less nature.

    Thanks for reminding me of some of the more crazy ones, Jackie rules.

    What a rip off! You have to buy the whole album again just to get the bonus tracks. Plus they haven't even bothered to create a new album from it, just dumped them on the end and named them bonus tracks (which is a synonym for "we couldn't be arsed to incorporate these into the original album").

    Seems all the pointless when you consider the 3 disc promo was recently leaked! Though I would be interested to see what the digital booklet is all about?

    James Horner to score "The Karate Kid" remake... who did that come along?
    That's about the last scoring assignement I would have expected...

    Curious, what he's coming up with...


    It's nice to see a talented composer replace one of the MV clones (usually it's the reverse happening).

    I'm almost willing to bet that Horner will use the shakuhaichi in place of the erhu and ditzi flutes and call it "Chinese."

  23. This is just a rumor which I think originated by someone adding Horner as the composer on Wikipedia. Thomas Newman is still working on the score.

    I didn't really care for the Avatar OST, but in IMHO the promo material packs some nice extra punch with some unrelenting heavy action stuff. Most of the extra stuff is quite boring though...

    For me the standout extra tracks are:

    - Quaritch down (i like this track because it doesn't sound like Avatar's music at all, its a kind of Uncommor Valor, meets Avatar, meets Resolution and Hyperspace from Aliens.
    - Thanator chase part 1 (i like this track a lot as well, its heavy and aggressive... with some very effective and cool sounding 'paaahhhh' male voice stuff.

    'The Death Of Quaritch' on the "deluxe" edition of the Avatar album is surprisingly synthy. Sounds like a mock-up cue in places, perhaps even early Zimmerish-esque. (I enjoy it... but that's not saying much as I enjoy just about everything Horner wrote for that film.)

    Indeed. It seems odd that synth mock ups (or at least cues that sound like mock-ups) constitute as "deluxe". I enjoy them, I have nothing against them - but why didn't they choose 'Qauritch Down', arguably the best track from the score? Very odd.

    Or you could take the super-deluxe 3CD + 5CD = 4CD film-order album-style edited version that I have spent 10-15 hours creating. biggrin
