I could only find this so far:

    "
only question...where did "My love is always here" play? Is it the song in the cathedral before they visit godrics hollow?

Good guess! Yup, that's it! It's when Hermione says "Harry, I think it's Christmas!""

  1. The Lovegood track isn't actually in the film, is it? (I'm pretty sure I would have noticed a 4 minute track of energetic light music in the dour film's final third.)

Yeah, it isn't. There's quite a bit of music on the OST that's missing or shorter in the film, and "Ron Leaves" is a different version too.

I couldn't agree more. The 7th symphony wasn't recorded with the mikes as it sounded ok.
    listen to more classical music!

I'm so sorry he lost again. On the other hand he is probably making good money and might not care.

Although in-directly linked to Deslpat (via "KING'S SPEECH"), CUTTING EDGE is a company whose role varies widely from film to film. Though creative control remains with the director and producers, the company will generally provide or recruit a music supervisor, who suggests what songs to include and helps clear the rights, and a composer who writes the score. It may also provide recording studio services, operate its own record label, administer publishing rights and distribute the music in other forms after a film is released.

This is an article on how they work. Interesting.

I thought they were massively disappointing.
  2. Largo Winch wasn't a huge favorite of mine, but there were some cool pieces. Hopefully the sequel will be a knockout.

Alexandre Desplat has just won a BAFTA for The King's Speech, presented to him by Paul McCartney.

The album is too long, that's my complaint.

  5. Is "maestro" now a general word for film music composer? It gets used far too often otherwise.

Only if they're supremely talented. I certainly don't use it often.

Maestro is widely used in music business and in orchestras or bands too; no biggie. The essense is what matters.

  9. Desplat probably does deserve the label of Maestro. The music is an acquired taste, I agree, but musicians hold him with great respect for a reason. He's definitely trying novel ideas in his music, and while he's a bit of a strict conductor, I think he gets what he wants because the musicians are curious to hear what he has in his mind.

Christopher Gordon similarly gets a love of appreciation from his orchestras. Having seen them relate to him, and the same orchestra had just been with a certain ex-Remote Control champion, they know when the guy is more a hummer with an orchestra at his disposal, and when he's in his element at the podium. (Admittedly, a bit of cultural hostility might have also been in play there - from an Australian orchestra to an American composer.)

The orchestra Gordon uses -- the Sydney Scoring Orchestra -- has its fair share of U.S. and UK expats among the musicians. I doubt it's a cultural thing.
