At last!! Someone else praising this score. The number of times I went on about this score hoping that people would listen to me (or at least to the clips). Martin Phipps' score is excellent from start to finish.

Yeah, and you weren't wrong. I took notice of your words before, but only now have been able to make the time for a proper listen, and I truly was very pleasantly surprised: in a genre that's becoming more cliched by the minute, this truly was a different, fresh and enjoyable experience. Very, very nice indeed!

    Oh!

I hard his scorefor North & South and thought that one had some incredible cues and a fantastic theme. So this sounds interesting. Other works by this composer worth mntioning?

NP: United 93 - John Powell

At the moment, I'm really addicted to The End. There's a couple of moments in this cue I really love, namely the bit where the percussion really kicks in about three and a half minutes in and it truly begins to climax, and also the final string chord once it's all over (referring mainly to the on-screen action here) - it's a poignant moment indeed. Dedication is a lovely cue too, very fitting. These two tracks make up possibly one of Powell's finest finales.

There's no cd release (not at the time when I got he bootleg or whatever it is). So, quite short, but quite enjoyable with some great highlights.

The score is quite popular on YouTube videos, for example, one of my favourite cues, Northbounr Train (beware, it's the last scene of the series biggrin):

Bregt, you really should giveThe Virgin Queen a shot, but be aware that it does involve a fair bit of "chanting" (for lack of a better term. If's a cross between medieval, renaissance and folk muisc styles) from the girl group The Mediaeval Baebes (whom I like a lot, incidentally. They're like the British equivalent of the Belgian group Laïs, if that rings a bell). Just so you know. I know it's a turn-off for some people.

    Sherry... vomit
The very best sherry I ever drank reminded me most of a mediocre port... didn't take me very long (downwards of one-tenth of a nanosecond) to decide to stick to the latter.

    Aye, 'tis.
But as Alan quite rightly already corrected me: the composer actually is Martin Phipps.
The Mediæval Bæbes are "mere" performers, though they appear in most tracks, and to most pleasing effect I must say!

Hmmm, I took a listen to the YouTube clip, but this track is rather too ambient for me. I need a bit more meat on the bone, so to speak.

I'm sure that it was something best forgotten.

But I have to say that I am disappointed with the way that posts are deleted on the whim of a moderator. If posts were left for all to see then people may be a bit more careful in what they write in the first place?

I agree. But I have missed it too so I just take it from others that it was best to have it removed?

Also, my first thought was, if the discussion needs to be deleted then just delete it all. It's a bit frustrating to read a discussion about a discussion that's not there anymore. And yes, that would include this post too...

I do like Erik's message though, so that one can stay! wink

NP. Blood Diamond - James Newton Howard
It's great to hear this one again! I played it a lot about a year ago, when I was working on finishing my studies. It's weird, because that feels like two or three years ago, it was also in the old house. I can't believe it has been only a year...?!

Anyway, now I know again why it was such a good score to work to. Energizing and relaxing at the same time. I forgot how cool the percussion was as well. That should get you going!
