The Other Boleyn Girl - Paul Cantelon

I haven't heard Speed Racer, but the only one of the others that's as good as Spiderwick is The Other Boleyn Girl, I think.

NP: The Last Valley - John Barry

Still wondering why I didn't recognize the clip in Southall's latest GTS game... I think I skipped the track accidentally. shame

The chorus is supposed to sing in german, but it's very hard to unterstand what they are actually singing. Does anyone have the lyrics?

I presume you're playing the original soundtrack Stefan?

The Silva re-recording has the lyrics in the liner notes in both German and English.

I don't have time right now but I could copy them here for you later if you like?

    Casino Royale - Arnold

While this is almost a fresh start for the Bond scores, I think Arnold's Bond sound is going to start getting rather repetitive. Bring in a fresh composer *cough* Giacchino *cough*.

*If I ever start sounding like a Giacchino fanboy, please shoot me. biggrin

    Not Powell?

I think Arnold's Bond sound is getting old fast. Powell would be a great choice for Bond.

To produce another BOURNE spin-off? Nah, give me Arnold's CASINO ROYALE any day!
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

Erik's been helping me sort out my MP3 collection tonight to get it to work with iTunes properly (cheers again!), so I've had a few CDs on. Rather random but:

    Dragonfly - John Debney

I got this at Ubeda last year, but I haven't listened to it until now. It's surprisingly better than I expected it to be, and I like the main theme quite a lot.

    Baby Boy - David Arnold

Again, another promotional CD I got in Spain. I expected this to be Arnold in his usual synth/organ/electric guitar mode for this, and boy was I right. I swear every single cue sounds the same on this. Didn't expect much from this but even then I felt disappointed. Oh well, it was free, so can't complain.

The Living Daylights - John Barry

Haven't listened to this for ages. Despite having a "retro" feel to it (the electronics especially), this still feels like a relatively new score. "Excercise At Gibralter" and "Ice Chase" are the highlights.

It's very beautiful - some lovely piano writing. Probably not quite substantial enough to sustain itself over the whole album, but I do like it.

Yep! Put that one with the rest of his Bond scores, jumble em all up and they are all interchangable. Not saying it's bad music just that it's non-descript. Without the Barry influences Arnold's Bond music is bog standard generic action music.

Listening to this again. My experience of Kaczmarek is extremely limited - does he have history of sounding like Michael Nyman? I just realised that's what this is like.

NP: SPEED RACER - Michael Giacchino

Sure, it's got Mickey Mousing, but in an old-fashioned, classy and entertaining style. Parts remind me of Jerry Goldsmith, in a good way. As soon as the orchestra swells, however, things are getting rather generic. But I'm not that much in, so anything can happen.

    Hi Stefan wave

    Here's THE LAST VALLEY lyrics...

THE LAST VALLEY - Main Title

    Die Turme steh'n in Glut
    die kirch ist umgekehret
    Das Rathaus liegt im Graus,
    Die Starken sind zerhaun,
    Die Jungfern sind geschandt,
und wo wir hin nur schaun
    ist feuer, pest und tod,
    der herz und geist durchfahret.

    The Church is on fire,
    the church is cast down
The town hall lies in ruins
    the strong are maimed
    The Virgins raped
And wherever we look there is fire, plague and death
    that pierces heart and mind.

Text from Tranen Des Vaterlandes by the Seventeenth Century German poet Andreas Gryphius ( 1616 - 1664 )

    The Plague Pit

Und wo wir hin nur schaun
    ist feuer, pest und tod.

And wherever we look there is fire plague and death.

    An Evening Song

    Benedictus Dominus Deus Sabbaoth
Benedicti qui sperant in nomine Domini
Manus enim Domini fortis et terrebilis

Blessed is the Lord God of Hosts
    Blessed are they who hope
in the name of the Lord
For the hand of the Lord is strong and terrible

Stefan, I've added some more to the above post ( I had to take a break as the small writing was hurting my eyes )

Do you want the remainder of the lyrics?

Yes, but only if it doesn't hurt your eyes, of course wink

The interesting thing is that one can now hear the lyrics without reading them anymore while listening. Without the lyrics I only recognized "Türme" and "Rathaus". dizzy
