I knew I'd get my head bitten off for this remark, but I still stand by what I said. I think when he produces a good score, it's really good.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day! Personally I don't think five good scores in a 15-year career is a particularly impressive ratio.

I'm listening to Korngold's Robin Hood if that makes you feel any better.

The only thing that would make me feel better would be not being at work, but there's no prospect of that for many hours yet.

If anything I'd say he's OVERRATED on this forum.

If Jordi and Demetris both like a score, there'll be enough hyperbole in the Now Playing thread to ensure that even a quality score seems overrated.

Just so Steven has some evidence that not everyone likes David Arnold, I'm not really too keen on his music. The Bonds are reasonably good, but only one of them is what I'd call as good as it could have been. wink

    NP : K2 - Hans Zimmer

Just fancied a bit of Zimmer sound shocked wink

This score has much of the Zimmer'isms I've come to dislike but this is amongst the first of his scores I bought hence it was still "fresh as a daisy" back then, I still like it and it also has a nostalgic 'feel good' value that I attatch to that particular time in my life back in 1991. cool

It's , for sure, in my top 5 Zimmer scores. it has all Zimmer sound but with orchestra. A great experience!
  2. Just to break a post on modern film music...

NP: The Sea Hawk: Classic Film Scores of Eric Wolfgang Korngold (1989 RCAVictor Compilation)

    http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/catalog/soundtrackdetail.php?movieid=6426

There's nothing like a full-blown Sea Hawk Theme! (Well, except a full-blown Captain Blood Theme perhaps, and this disc gives you both!).

Wow, this guy has a problem with copying and pasting his own work..."Swordplay" in this edition has the exact same melody as "Only the Beginning of the Adventure" from Narnia. I guess he thought since it didn't get used in KoH he could re-use it in another score... confused

This 2-hour score is mostly VERY good, however smile

Indeed and ages better than the official cd release of KOH.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

I loved this score when I bought it. Then I burned so much it, that I bored it. Now i love it again.

My second favourite Goldsmith Score , after Total Recall. Then Secret of the Nimh and basic Instinct.

There's no a dull moment. From long action pieces to long dramatic tracks.

NP: Atlantis - The Lost Empire by James Newton Howard

There are tracks on the promo version that I sorely missed on the OST - "Atlantis Destroyed" and "Dogfight". Two amazing cues biggrin

And stuff like "The Leviathan", "Fireflies", "Going After Rourke" and "Just Do It" is as crisp as ever lick

And ages better than what Ridley Scott & Marc Streitenfeld did with this music in the film... shocked

About the copy-paste thing from KoH to Narnia... I think it was something like "Fine, you don't like my music ? OK... slant Andrew, I have something to show you ! wave wink "

Yup, it´s a shame that his best score for a Disney movie got no Oscar.

  5. NP: Atlantis - The Lost Empire by James Newton Howard

Without any doubt my favourite of Howard´s bunch of Disney movies. I prefer it highly above Dinosaur. The classic adventure stuff is okay, but it´s when the movie finally reaches Atlantis where the score starts to shine and brings forth highlight after highlight. Nearly every track from the second half is a winner.

NP:Indiana Jones And The Crystal Skull (williams).

I find "Raider's march" theme in the Area 51 sequence a little bit out of place, specially this kind of "tender" arrengement when Indy is taken Bullets for find the "thing"

Why Im listening that trying to Find Indy's Spirit????

NP:Indiana Jones And the last Crusade (williams)

Much, much better. "Escape from venice" and "belly of Steel" is what I want!!!

    Yes, very lucky me.
Well I knew the main theme, of course, from concert arrangements, but I'd never listened to the score itself. Now thrice in less than 24 hours smile
