I was in HMV today and saw a CD (20+ minutes of score) from Animals United, by Newman. Any comments on it?
  6. Someone said at FSM a month or two ago, in a thread for the score, that it was average and nothing special from him.

Samples at SAE. See my site for links, when stuff is avaiable: http://DavidNewmanFilmMusic.150m.com

it has a stellar theme, the rest I don't know that well anymore. I gave it three stars, but it was tempting to give it 3 and a half solely for that main theme

  10. Thanks Thomas. I've read several times that the theme is a good one. I may pick this one up.

  12. Varese CD releases are out:

    My Demon Lover
    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
    Music Composed by David Newman
    Limited Edition of 1000 copies

From the Varèse Sarabande archives comes the wonderfully fun David Newman score for the Scott Valentine/Michelle Little 1987 film My Demon Lover.

A young man named Kaz (Scott Valentine), afflicted with the curse of turning into an animal at the least sign of sexual arousal, tries to remain friends with a girl he's just met (Michelle Little). Meanwhile, he recruits a bizarre street scientist (Arnold Johnson) to create an antidote to the curse before it's too late.

David Newman's talent was apparent even in the early days and My Demon Lover shows off the composer in a variety of different styles.

I have no relation to the film or score, but funny how they have replicated an 80's aesthetic in the cover art.
    I am extremely serious.

This is my favourite Newman score! I always hoped (based on it) that he would do Star Trek after Goldsmith.

  15. New interview with the composer. Starts about 30 seconds in (takes a bit to load fully):
    http://www.ideastream.org/applause/entry/58272

I'm still listening to it, but it's fun.

EDIT: it finished after I submitted the post. The whole interview is about 21 minutes of the program.

  16. I just found out he scored a weird short film with puppets:
    "Chunks of Life"
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzF18xAPlCw

It wasn't on his IMDb credits last time I looked. He's worked with one of the directors (there were two credited) before and long after the short on a Chipmunks shitquel.

  17. The pilot for a proposed "Galaxy Quest" seires, he already under way. The same director and writer from the film are doing it.

No word on the composer yet.

  18. Producers? Which network?

There is high possibility Newman could do it... if he wants to. Though who'd refuse a series? It's a regular paycheck.

cool news, I'm very fond of the film. But I suppose it will be all new actors doing it (I don't sea Sigourney Weaver, Tim Allen and Sam Rockwell doing TV series)? Perhaps a younger generation portraying them?

Would be cool though for David Newman, but I doubt he'll do it.

  20. Not sure about the other two, but considering that Allen started out in TV there is no reason why he wouldn't do another one smile
