This looks reaaaally good. And definitely not a Bourne movie.

I wonder what type of score we'll get. I hope it's not a clone of the Bourne music but expect it to be very similar. A Powell take on something like Black Hawk Down would be pretty cool though.

Jonah Hex also has great potential for a western/rock score.

    Could be like Ghost Rider.

Come on, it's Powell we're talking about here. He's bound to come out with something original or quirky for it!

I didn't think much of Young's Ghost Rider.

I thought it rocked! Literally, just like Beowulf and Elfman's Wanted. Maybe it helps that i did NOT watch the hideous movie though.

I don't think it will be like Ghost Rider considering the subject of the film. I'm guessing it will be in a similar vein to Elfman's The Kingdom score (especially since Powell is clearly influenced by Elfman). But who knows, it could sound like Chicken Run...

I too am excited about Powell's Jonah Hex. Western stylings + a rock element could be a heck of a lot of fun in Powell's hands. Bring it on!

I like it a lot now, but its one of those scores that took me several listens before I actually enjoyed it. I suggest anyone who has given up on it to try listening to it again.

I am not sure how many will actually respond positively to this vomit-inducing news...except if he won't actually co-compose a score with them, just a couple of songs or so which the most likely possibility i guess.

Following his collaboration with metal band Mastodon on Jonah Hex, John Powell will work with latin legend Sérgio Mendes (”Mas que nada”) and rap star will.i.am on the music for Rio, the upcoming animated comedy from 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios.

Just a couple of songs? *shrug*
I'll happily weather those for the chance of partaking of -what appears to be- a Powell Brazil-flavoured score!

I don´t know Sergio Mendes nor Mastodon. But I freezing everytime I see a composer (specially if the composer is among my favs) attached to a project with a band or an allegedly legend.

Was it used in Austin Powers? The track that springs to mind immediately for me is Quincy Jones's Soul Bossa Nova.
