  1. OK, I just had a nice FB experience. I posted the kazoo-video on my wall, got a reply from Bear thanking me for giving him inspiration punk

I responded by calling myself one of his muses, he confirmed it. biggrin

OK, I'm happy now, even though the rest of my day (at work) sucked, this little interaction just made it all ok...

    Argh!

Apparently there will be no cd of the Walking Dead! Apparently there's no desire to dedicate resources to get this released. A pity! McCreary is a very good composer. And it's our only chance to get the kazoo featured on disc. sad

    New score assignment

'Walking Dead' composer to score 'DaVinci' series

  3. I remembered that McCreary was going to score a superhero film, and that I was trying to narrow it down. Well, here's the original list with updates:

    justin boggan wrote
Okay, so we're narrowing it down then; removing:

    "Dredd"
Since it's in production trouble and if they are probably going to get a new composer, if they even have one now.

(already doneand gone, and he was not on it originally, either)

    "Man of Steel"
(Zimmer got it; don't think MCCreary was ever going to be offered it anyway)

    "Deadpool"
I believe that's in limbo at the moment.

    "Doctor Strange"
Rumored to be J.N.H. for this.

    "The Avengers"
Silvestri is supposed to have it, as reported by attendies of the recent event where reportedly his wife said so.

(We know Silvestri did it, now)

    "Hancock 2"
Same director, so Powell should get the job; not until 2013, so too early for even him to announce.

    "Ant-Man"
Isn't until 2014, and David Arnold could get that, having scored "Hot Fuzz" for the director.

    "Nick Fury"
    Still too far off.

    "Iron Fist"
Doesn't even have a dictor, or cast yet.

    "Sub-Mariner"
    Still being developed.

    "Wanted 2"
Apparently hasn't even been written yet.

"Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall"
Developement heck, as far as I can tell.

    "X-Men Origins: Magneto"
    No script, no director.

New Spider-Man is going to Horner.
    (gone and done)

So, that would mean one of these two:

    "Silver Surfer"
    "Thundercats"

SS is a "go", but that's all I know -- didn't look any further.

"Thunderctas" is the only film that has actually started work, as of earlier this year. Unless I missed a film, this is the only one it could be.

So that leaves me wondering just what the hell it could be. I'm guessing some director of one not even written and filmed, asked him to score, or signed way, way early.

This is what Bear had to say about this new series:
    Bear wrote
I can tell you that this show is one of the most spectacularly produced and well written pieces of entertainment I've ever been fortunate enough to be involved in.

David Goyer, Starz and BBC are letting me write big, bold melodies for live orchestra. I'm developing a dozen of character themes, right from the first episode, and planning out musical arcs for multiple seasons in advance.

This is going to be a fun one, you guys!

OK, now I'm really getting excited... I didn't know BBC was involved... And live orchestra, planning out musical arcs for multiple seasons... I think I'm going to be in for a treat...

"The album features a remix of the main titles theme of the show composed by Bear McCreary, as well as several songs used in the third season of the zombie series by artists including Jamie N Commons, Voxhaul Broadcast, Baby Bee, Emily Kinney and Lauren Cohan, Delta Spirit, Of Monsters and Men and Fink."

    Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome

    http://scoremagacine.blogspot.gr/2013/0 … e-out.html

The harshest, most-hard rock / metal oriented BSG score in the series so far; filled with electric guitars in distortion, lacks the grand thematic statements of the previous installments; although they are there, there's however not as dense or prominent as in the previous scores. There's also a lot of metallic and sampled sounds, clusters, electronic dissonance etc. Percussion is always as marching and vivid as Bear McCreary's writing goes. Lovers of the series will love it, others better approach one of the earliest scores first and if you like those, then move up to Battlestar Galactica: Razor and maybe this new one here.

Is this likely to go on iTunes at all, as the other seasons' soundtracks have? Or not, as it is a limited release?

I didn't care for it that much, but not surprising as the BSG finale score (all lush and orchestral) is my favorite.

I did read Scott Glasgow's most recent - and limited - release (Riddle?) is likely to appear on iTunes when it has sold out.

So, there is a chance McCreary's score could appear there too if it sells out.

I loved the last few BSG scores, but the only track I really enjoyed from Blood & Chrome was "The Galactica." Apart from that the themes are indistinct. I watched Blood & Chrome as it came out. One of those things you want to be good but it really just isn't, and I think maybe the inspiration was there like it was with the BSG series.

Parts of "A Cylon Spy" were good, but never latches onto that catchy theme you're waiting for. "Coker's Interlude" is pretty piano stuff, but not nearly as interesting as BGS's previous pretty piano stuff, and "Coker's Photo" and "Husker" were decent.

I'm wading through the Human Target score for the first time trying to pick out highlights and there's good stuff there, but there's so much to it I'm getting a little overwhelmed. Anyone have some suggestions? What cues do you recommend?

So far the tracks that've really stood out were the theme (long version), This is Awkward, and The Russian Embassy. I think I'm just gravitating to whenever he pulled out the taikos. :P

^ I love the whole thing... yes, the whole thing. All 3CD's. However, a highlight reel of sort would be great, too. I'll have to revisit this one and find the best of the best!

It's too damn long. Especially the CD version.

Ages ago I trawled through all of it and came up with this playlist.

Theme From Human Target (Short Version)
    Courthouse Brawl
    The Russian Embassy
    Airborne And Lethal
    Skydive
    Military Camp Rescue
    Motorcycle Escape
    Bertram
    Confronting Baptiste
    Maria And Chance
    Goldona
    Scar Stories
    No Threats
    Skyhook Rescue
    The New Christopher Chance

Maybe that's why no-one else has released any score from The Walking Dead? He's had his eye on this score all along and it has meant that no other label has been able to release anything up until now?

I am curious to hear music from this show. A lot of people rave about how good it is but, save for the first show (which I wasn't that impressed by), I've not seen any other episode.

I don't think non-fans of The Walking Dead will appreciate the music on its own as fans of the show will.

Well it's to a certain extent the same way as it is with X-files or Star Trek music, however there have been numerous standout cues throughout the three seasons of Walking Dead of which any compilation would appeal to soundtrack fans not necessarily into the show. A lot has happened since that first episode (not just with in the music department) and McCreary's music did get to develop a bit more.
