He's credited as Christophe Beck on "F/X: The Seires". I'm going through the first season now.

Nope. In the actual credit sequence, he's credited as Jean-Christophe. Unless they've gone in and changed it in retrospect.
    I am extremely serious.
  1. Must be a retroactive change, unless it was Jean-Christophe for you in overseas re-runs.

  2. My review of the score for ANT-MAN, for anyone who's interested:

    I'm with ya, Jon.
It's a remarkable score in the Marvel line!

  3. Fine Review as always, James.

(I like your Main Titles account icon much better than the one you use over at the ScoreBoard. wink )

Yes, to be honest I wasn't looking my best on the day I had that photoshoot for Filmtracks. For maintitles I commissioned the famous painter Brian O'Hanra-Hanrahan to do the beautiful portrait, which I think turned out really well. What's interesting is that while he was painting it I was naked from the waist down but of course you can't see that in the little clipping available here. If you're interested in seeing the whole portrait, please let me know.

Earlier this summer, composer Christophe Beck recorded his score to the Blue Sky/Fox animated film The Peanuts Movie. Directed by Steve Martino and based on the classic comic strip by Charles M. Schulz, the scoring sessions took place at the Newman Scoring Stage at 20th Century Fox, and ScoringSessions.com is delighted to bring our readers photos from the sessions!

    Enjoy!
I consider a project a success when Thor says he won't buy it
  4. Beck scored the new Coca-Cola commercial Hulk vs. Ant-Man:

  5. Beck this month started a new thing where's he's posting what he calls "unreleased, unused, or heartlessly rejected" pieces on youtube "every week". I assume this un-named 2014 science fiction film is none other than "Terminator Genisys", which he was hired to score in 2014:

  6. It could also be one of his ideas for Edge of Tomorrow. A lot of what he originally came up with for that movie was never used.
  7. Here's a cue from his score to the upcoming shleck "Trolls":

Unforunately, it's banned in the U.S., so I can't hear it. On his youtube channel. Bastards.

  8. Okay, finally some "Trolls" score from another channel that is playing:

    "Rescue"

I cringed, prepared for the worst. I wasn't expecting good score for this film, and a lot of Beck's recent work has either left me indfferent or disappointed. But I was plesantly surprised by this orchestral score with professional tenderness and warmth.

I'll need to listen to more to make a better judgement on it.

Watch Ant Man again yesterday. One of my favourite Marvel films and I think probably the one with the best score.

Ah, I do so appreciate your frame of reference.

It's one with a lot of re-watch value, although I don't think it's the best (I think that may still be the first Iron Man, although I -as the only person in the world- have a bit ofa soft spot for Captain America: First Avenger), but no argument from me on the score. Best Marvel score so far by MILES! (Giacchino's Doctor Strange a good second. Everything else trailing behind in the abyss.)

  10. I think my favorite Marvel film is actually Winter Soldier, but that comes from the genre they refer to in spades, as I'm a huge fan of the 1970s conspiracy thrillers and actually subverting the "regular" casting choice for that genre was also a nice wink for the fans and perhaps even a bit of a political statement. I like how it reverses the "simple world" at hand in The First Avenger.

That said The First Avenger has a lot of very cool stuff going from it, starting with what's perhaps indeed (as you stated some time before, Martijn) the most touching single moment in the universe's history ("I had a date"), which is surprisingly emotionally nuanced for what is a franchise origin story.

Best Marvel score, I'm actually not that willing to discuss it that far, but perhaps I'd even go with Tyler's Iron Man 3 (Thor is a bit samish in its own world). I actually have quite a lot of respect for Jackman's Winter Soldier, but it's so reviled that nobody would want to listen to any arguments defending it. Just two points I'd make is that contrary to most of you, I think the use of a Silvestri cue in the beginning of the film is actually legitimizing, not undermining, what Jackman does later. And I like how somehow tragic is the new theme for Cap, hinting at the sense of loss coming with his growth in the modern world.

  11. Jackman's Winter Soldier isn't a good score by any means but I will say that I think it's pretty hamstrung by an absolutely dreadful album arrangement that seems to have been designed to foreground the sound design and awful modern action cues as much as possible, and hide some of the better orchestral material the score does have to offer. Not to mention completely neglecting to include Falcon's theme...there's more of it in Christophe Beck's Ant-Man album, even!
  12. The album presentation is downright atrocious, that's true.
