Well, it's a nick score, but the main theme it's clearly by Zimmer. And one of those themes wich only Zimmer can compose : Touching.

    NP:Hunt of the red october
Probably I like more this score than Crimson Tide.
  1. NP: The Ghost and the Darkness- Jerry Goldsmith

Great themes, the african spirit, good action cues...

    God I miss JERRY!!!

I agree with all your points (except I'd have given it a five, rather than a four tongue); you and I share almost exactly the same favorite tracks! biggrin punk beer

I deducted one point because of the over-repetition of the theme. That got a bit annoying sometimes! LOL wink

NP: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl - Klaus Badelt

Great soundtrack; I probably like this better than the Dead Man's Chest one. My only complaint is the track names; some of them don't seem to fit very well (e.g. Will and Elizabeth, Barbossa Is Hungry, etc.), and are rather strange when compared to the music they represent. Other than that, everything is great. Couldn't be any happier! biggrin

    Favorite tracks:

    2. The Medallion Calls
    7. Barbossa Is Hungry
    11. Skull and Crossbones
    12. Bootstrap's Bootstraps
    13. Underwater March
    14. He's a Pirate

Agreed! beer Barbossa Is Hungry is one of the best tracks of the trilogy IMO.

    Yep, that's for sure! beer

    Very good cool

That's a great score too! Is it a bootleg or something?

I'm not sure? A good friend on this board made me a copy.

I was wondering if there was a limited release (like Tombstone, I know little about those releases)... thanks anyway. I'll search for info about it smile

NP: Once Upon A Time In America - Ennio Morricone (hope I didn't misspell maestro's name)
I got it a few months ago but haven't heard it lately... wow. Beautiful.

    You didn't misspell it smile.

And Fly Away Home is a bootleg indeed.

    Me too!

I was playing : Vertigo (Herrman)

One of my all time favourites scores. And one of the most influentials.

    NP:The Ring (Zimmer)

It's ironic. One zimmer score without original cd realease, with just 20 minutes of music, and it's one of his best scores.

I enjoy much more this score than other one like Hannibal (Wich, ironically it's more diverse and complex)

VERTIGO is such a great score and still used so much by TV companies, particularly Space documentaries, it works so well with infinite visuals, it was also used brilliantly in an episode of The Soprano's where two of the characters were getting high on Heroin.

NP : THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD - Erich Wolfgang Korngold

I love this score, a great late /early morning listen that sounds like an extension of Goldsmith's Chinatown.

Great review indeed! I agree for the most part.

so even though they are composed by different people, there is a wonderful unity to the music.

Sadly, that's what Disney's (and some other animation studios') directors/producers have forgotten these days... consistency between songs and score.

instead adding in a song which had been dropped from the original cut of the movie,

The Morning Report is not an unused song from the movie. Originally it was written for Broadway version, then later, they added it to DVD Special Edition. (It was good on the stage, but it's really unnecessary for the movie)

a warthog voiced by Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella's meerkat.

Nathan Lane is Timon the meerkat, Ernie Sabella is Pumbaa the warthog. wink

Sorry for my nitpicking comments... I'm a bit geeky about TLK biggrin

NP: Kiki's Delivery Service - Joe Hisaishi

    Perfect for a sunday afternoon.

I prefer these "older" Ghibli-Hisaishi scores (Totoro, Porco Rosso) to newer ones such as Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle. It's partly because of nostalgia (I saw those movies countless times as a kid biggrin ), but I think they're more energetic and memorable.

Nice review, James! Only that I never felt the brass in This Land is bad in any way (the theme section with choir never fails to give me goosebumps!), but I totally agree with the rest of the review totally! I am greatly looking forward to when the actual score is released, and gets proper reviews and acknowledgement! punk

NP: Mulan (promo) - Jerry Goldsmith

Like Atlantis: The Lost Empire, I feel there are two halves of this score too - the first not-so-serious with some developing thematic material, and the second with great action music, ethnic stuff and a sadly underused choir. One of my current Top 10 scores, and one of the best by Maestro Goldsmith!

    My rating - 4.5 out of 5!
