Well, probably you should listen to the regular album first. In my opinion there's more than enough music on that disc. I have never understood why ID4 is considered to be one of the greats. For me it's just another characterless action score with some fine moments.

Because it has great themes, powerful orchestrations and is unashamedly over-the-top Hollywood action scoring for a big dumb sci-fi disaster movie. It's one of those scores that non-film music fans notice, and it's what set me on the way for the passion I have for film music today. The end credits music is reason enough why this is held in such high regard.

As far as the original album goes, I think the length is good... but I would swap some of the cues for the ones from the complete score. My playlist from the 2 CD bootleg goes like this and is probably more suited to the Thors out there:

    1. 1969 - Main Title
    2. Cropduster
    3. The Destroyers Detatch
    4. Evacuation - Firestorm
    5. Base Attack - Canyon Chase
    6. Spaceship From Roswell
    7. Nuke Attack - Reunions
    8. The First Lady Dies
    9. David Gets An Idea
    10. Planning The Attack
    11. International Code
    12. The Wedding
    13. The President's Speech
    14. Farewell - Launching The Ship
    15. Liftoff - Mothership - Rebellion
    16. Jolly Roger
    17. Independence Day
...and that would make a near-perfect album with a perfect ending. But it goes one better with the mighty end titles suite:
    18. End Titles

The complete score is far from a perfect listen, I always listen to this playlist when I want to listen to the score. But a 'characterless action score' this is not.
  2. Independence Day is anything but characterless !!! shocked

Nice playlist S., I'll have to compare that one with the complete when the album gets released.

Some nostalgia playing here. Love(d) the movie when it came out, because I love the score from that very instant, and to see the upcoming album finally replace my bootleg is a godsend. If only to have the film version of the Roswell spaceship reveal, which is so much better than the boot's version. beer

Disc 2 Track 2 "Mutha Ship" Really? Why didn't they just name the cue where Will Smith punches the alien "Welcome Tah Erf!" biggrin

Anyway, kick ass release and I can't wait to sink my teeth into this one... especially the film version of "The Day We Fight Back!"

Great, must buy! I love his orchestral sound of ID4, something he's never really done anymore since Godzilla. Hope the tracks segue a bit into each other, though... Hated the way the Godzilla 2-disc was produced.

I really wonder why David Arnold hasn't done something of this style in a long time. I think The Musketeer is the really last one of that orchestral bombastic approach where he could go all out on the fun factor.

Seriously David, why have you abandoned your style by which you became world-famous for? (not sure of how I wrote this sentence but I'm sure you'll get it).

I kept refreshing, saw all the files they stored in the root directory when they were uploading the new index page. Eventually got on but none of the images or text were visible (only hyperlinks!).

Navigated to the order button, paid, and got my confirmation, but now can't get on the site. dizzy
