Paul too! The song was Play Dead from The Young Americans (or 'the one from the Vauxhall Vectra advert' if you're my age).

Spotted Steven Moffat, David Walliams, Danny Boyle, Victoria Wood, Charlie Higson, David Julyan and a few others in addition to those mentioned by Anthony.

I have a good eye for these things, particularly after the Patrick Doyle concert last December which was attended by almost every British actor that wasn't dead (and possibly some that were).

Loitering at the bar is usually the best way to find them. beer

Just got out of the David Arnold concert in London and it was without a doubt the best film music concert I've ever been to.

From memory we had: Wing Commander, Last Of The Dogmen, Godzilla, Four Brothers, a song by David McAlmot, a piece from the musical Made In Dagenham, Parade Of The Athletes, a 20 minute Stargate suite, Amazing Grace, a Sherlock suite and the Independence Day end titles.

Oh, and perhaps the greatest mini-Bond concert ever: Only Myself To Blame, Surrender, The World Is Not Enough, You Know My Name instrumental, City Of Lovers, The Name's Bond...James Bond, Night At The Opera and THE FULL WHITE KNIGHT!

Nicholas Dodd conducted it all except for Sherlock which was done by Michael Price. Mark Gatiss ("I'm only here for Skyfall") and Amanda Abbingdon introduced it, and I could see Martin Freeman in the audience.

Only two quibbles were there was nothing from Shaft and even though there was a choir, it wasn't used in Independence Day (though Arnold did have a go on the house organ!)

Very impressed with the orchestra, especially the massive brass section. Arnold was singing Made In Dagenham, The World Is Not Enough and Only Myself To Blame and was very, very good. David McAlmot sang Tomorrow Never Dies.

    10/10

Still can't believe they did White Knight!

Sounds like it was a great night.

Did he use Isaac Hayes theme in his score? I've seen the film but can't remember.

    Me too. Sounds splendid.

But I've had to make some serious priorities this year with all the film music events happening.

I think the theme is in the movie but not in the score itself. Would have loved to have heard this. Heck, I'd love to have that piece full stop.

So someone did go see it. I asked here and nobody replied! I was still in London yesterday too but didn't go to the concert because no one here did! So I did go home in the evening. Otherwise I'd have booked a night extra.

Glad you had a great time. I always wondered why there was no earlier concert of him. Very concert-able music I think.

You should know by now that Anthony has no desire to meet you again in real life, Bregt, hence he never told you he was going. wink

    WHITE KNIGHT

Hopefully there'll be some better film and sound from the concert.

I also see that the up-loader has credited John Barry with the Bond theme, doesn't he know that ol' Monty will be suing his ass soon as? cheesy

  2. Looks totally fab. So wish I'd gone. Pretty much any other weekend would've been alright... oh well. I'm glad for DA that it seems to have been a great succes.

The video doesn't do that justice. It was easily the most impressive piece of film music I've heard live.

True. But I wouldn't mind seeing Putin give it a try. With battery acid. And razor blades.

Amazingly (edit: unsurprisingly), that's not the first nomination I've seen for Putin.

(The other coming from Vin Diesel.)

I just watched David Arnold and the Royal Philharmonic perform "Come In 007, Your Time Is Up" aka the boat chase music from The World Is Not Enough.

    Understandably, this was fucking awesome.

Will try and post a shitty phone audio recording tomorrow.

It seems they dropped White Knight in favour of it, but I can hardly fault not playing your #1 Bond piece and playing your #2 instead.

Went to see Arnold at Symphony Hall in Birmingham last night. What a show! The turn-out was awful though, as David constantly joked about. He's a funny guy.

The set-list was great though. Plenty of Bond (songs too), Independence Day, Stargate, Last of the Dogmen, Young Americans and more. The performance from the CBSO was phenomenal - they really are first-class players. City Of Lovers from Casino Royale was performed so pristinely, you'd have thought they were playing the original recording through the speakers!

Great show and a great personality.

Sorry to hear the poor turn-out (must have been a huge loss for the venue), but nice to hear that the concert was great. Should I ever get my Norwegian film music festival off the ground, Arnold and that program is one of the features I want the most.
