One of my favorite composers. The Stargate score is incredible. (Go, Slave Rebellion!) I'm very happy that Mr. Arnold will be scoring Narnia 3, rather than Harry Gregson-Williams. Harry is good, but I think David can bring a lot more depth to the themes than Harry can - or could.

Yeah! I want to see how David Arnold composes for the fantasy genre! And I'm expecting a treat! punk

I'm happy with HGW's Narnia scores but IMHO he repeated a LOT of LWW in Prince Caspian. While I didn't have a problem with that, it could become repetitive and boring if it continues into the next films. So I guess Arnold will be a nice change biggrin

It certainly will be interesting to see him going back to his "swashbuckling" sound, a la The Musketeer. Though most of his orchestral-based music does have that brassy swashbuckling style.

Yeah, that's what I think would happen if HGW continued. It's sort of sad, to think about it, as it was he who thought up the themes initially, but, I do have a feeling that if he stayed for Narnia 3, we would not only get most of the score from LWW, but also from PC. So, David Arnold is definitely a good choice. I really like Harry's style of writing, but I feel David can better bring out and develop the themes.

I wouldn't every time, but I would a lot of the time.
  2. Watching a show called "Speeders" where they film, like COPS, speeders. There's a police officer, in California named David Arnold.

Recently announced in a press release, David Arnold will not write the title song to Quantum of Solace. Rather, the song (entitled "Another Way to Die") has been written by Jack White who will also perform it along with Alicia Keys.

Hopefully Arnold had some hand in it, since we all know it's better when the title song can be worked into the score, but judging by the language of the press release, it appears that isn't so.

What have been the best Bond theme songs in the past 15 years? Hmm...You Know My Name, and Surrender. Coincidence they're written by Arnold?

Pretty good considering he isn't even half done writing it yet. applause I'm still annoyed about the song. Once again we'll probably have a score that uses no thematic elements from the title theme. sad

If the song turns out to be shit, then no big loss. Anyway, it's Arnold, he'll produce another fine score I'm sure of it.

I'm sure Nicholas Dodd's score will sound as indefinably a schmorgasboard of note crunching noise as the rest of his Bond scores with a few good bits thrown in between which I'll enjoy ( those "good" bits being Barryesque in sound ) wink

I knew you would chime in!

Well I'm looking forward to it. I know a lot of the fans who grew up on Barry's music don't share an ounce of the enthusiasm I have for Arnold's Bond scores, but I love them. Indeed many of the older members don't share my enthusiasm for Arnold in general, but to my ears few other composers make as great albums as Arnold does. I can't get enough of his themes and the way he structures his scores, and I love Dodd's orchestrations of all that. Plus he's a really cool guy.

I really did think Casino Royale was good. Not great, but certainly good. I'm hoping for more of that slightly rawer sound, and that the keyboards can largely stay at home again. I really do think it's disappointing if Arnold isn't writing the song - it just gives the film a more coherent feel if the song theme is incorporated into the score - and that's one of the reasons the Die Another Day music is so disappointing - of course I wouldn't want that god-awful song in the score, but had Arnold been able to write his own song, undoubtedly everything would have turned out better, including the score.

When I first heard Casino Royale, I was a bit disappointed with the lack of references to the Bond theme, but it's grown on me HUGELY since and it's probably my second favourite Arnold Bond after Tomorrow Never Dies. It clearly showed we can have a Bond score with minimal references to the older stuff. smile

That's not allowed! shocked Clearly something is wrong... biggrin

I think with Quantum Of Solace, I'd like a few more references to the theme (actually have a twangy guitar version of it, or at least part of it during the movie instead of the credits), but not at the same insane level of Die Another Day.

Actually, all is as it should be, don't worry. I didn't read the last bit properly!

I think Arnold actually included quite a lot of nods to Barry in his score. Certainly when the plane is being revealed and also when the story ends up in Venice, would you not agree?

Yes, but I'm talking more about the main Bond theme and not the Barry style of writing. Arnold is clearly our new generation of John Barry, and it's that style of writing that kept it feeling like a Bond score. If the music you mentioned wasn't used, then it would surely just become another generic action adventure score. wink
