Yes, but I'm talking more about the main Bond theme and not the Barry style of writing. Arnold is clearly our new generation of John Barry, and it's that style of writing that kept it feeling like a Bond score. If the music you mentioned wasn't used, then it would surely just become another generic action adventure score. wink

To be honest, much though I appreciate that Arnold tries to pay tribute to Barry by using some of his music in all of his Bond scores, it always feels a bit jarring to me. Arnold is absolutely nothing like Barry and it always feels like the generic action adventure score stops for a couple of minutes' lifting from You Only Live Twice (it's always You Only Live Twice) before starting up again.

Fair enough but the thematic material suffers when the composer doesn't have a hand in the writing of the theme song. John Barry walked from GOLDENEYE for that reason and I don't blame him.

Personally I think it was probably the last Bond film that Barry would have been just right for, his classy elegant style wouldn't fit in with todays noise fests.

I'd bet money you've never heard the dramatic gem that is LEON. Or the equally strong The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

Whether he has or not is besides the point D, he's talking about the score for GOLDENEYE.

p.s. LEON is very good imo but I didn't like 'Joan of Arc' at all.....film and score!

I think your pointing out the fact I don't like Joan of Arc means you do like Joan of Arc cos I'm a Barry fan and you are not.

The fact I like Empire Strikes Back means you don't like You Only Live Twice.

I believe I'm making as much sense as you! tongue wink

Is David Arnold Co-composer of the new bond Song with Jack White and Alicia Keys?

Someone can talk a little bit about the audio interview in musicfromthemovies.com?

The Bond producers have taken the integrity out of the scoring which is why Barry was big and rich enough to walk off Goldeneye.

Regardless of any of my feelings towards Arnold's scoring he should be involved in the song.

Exactly. Hopefully this time it won't be a case of Arnold writing a song and encorporating it into the score, only to have the song rejected not have it recorded (Die Another Day). At least with Tomorrow Never Dies they put it over the end credits...but still, Surrender was way better than anything Sheryl Crow was singing. rolleyes

I was thinking about this the other day, and it annoys the hell out of me. Already it's a step below Casino Royale. slant

This is the diference between Arnold (or some other composer) and Zimmer. Zimmer is not so much a composer but a public relations. Zimmer sells so well himself that producers or directors always counts with him in the musical decisions.

Anyway, the 3 Arnold songs for Bond movies are some of my favourite Arnold scores. What he did wrong is choosing not top singers.
