Hey everyone! I'm a young composer, hoping to score films professionally when I'm older. Here are some links to a few of my works within the past couple years. Hope you like them! Please tell me what you think.

I listened to three of them, very nice work, mate!! beer They're very creatively and well composed, IMO. I loved it, will listen to the rest soon too biggrin

I see you recorded them using GarageBand, so they sound a little MIDI-sound oriented. Try using FL Studio or Cubase and get VST Plugins like Edirol Orchestral and East West Quantum Leap so you can get a wider range of instruments and better sound quality.

Thanks! Glad you liked them! Yes, I use GarageBand, but I hope to get Finale, Sibelius, or Notion within the next few years. I've been composing now for about two and a half years, and sort of taught myself how to do it. Granted, I still have a lot to learn, but I think I'm progressing at a fairly good pace. Thanks again!

I must say i'm very pleased with East West soundlibrary's (gold!). Especially the strings (in quartet set up) are very vibrant! I will check your mp 3's soon. If you're interested you can listen to some of my music where the East West Golden Orchestra is used.

Right now I changed from pc to apple mac because they're specialised in editing audio combined wiht midi. I work with Logic and the possibilities seem endless! They've also included GREAT Orchestral samples that you can edit individualy as you please ( envelope, resonance, hall, cut off etc... ) The Grand Piano sounds good as well! More demo's on this new 'battlestation' will follow!

    grzt, Joris

    Hi Telmarine,

your work sounds promising. Although I think you could gain som transparance in your compositions by using samples from different sources. ( as i said, I can warmly advice East West! ) The only downside to every sample is that it hides gaps and minor irrigularities in the composition because of the simple fact that computers don't have that musical touch, they remain machines. But still, I think you're able to do some great things with music! keep up the works!

    grtz, Jojo

    Thanks, Joris! biggrin
  1. I'm with Joris is saying your work shows promise. I think you are a little ham-strung because of what you are working with though... but that could be equally said of anybody working on a PC to create music.

As a step up from GarageBand, yet not as complex as Cubase, may I suggest 'Record Producer Delux'... its very similar to 'Digital Orchestrator Pro' that I use (but has been discontinued). I find that because of its simplicity it leaves me free to think on composing rather than being as cluttered as I found Cubase... so much to learn on Cubase. Woops... almost forgot the link to the place to find out more about 'Record Producer Delux'... http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/music-software.aspx Lots of other software on there too... and it won't break the bank.

You could possible do with a better sound card in your PC and certainly 'samples from different sources' as Joris put it.

I do not know which country you are in, but you might consider looking into 'Shooting People' or the such like to see if you can get an unpaid gig on a Micro-Budget movie or more... its good for building up your CV biggrin

My very best wishes to you.
