  1. I haven't listened to the entire score for a whole but there are some good tracks on it. A bit more emphasis on electronic rhythms that makes these tracks quite catchy.

It's a nice score, electronics are spot on and the main title is infectiously good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MvtTprO … re=related
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  2. There's a sale going on at Jones' website:

Justin mentioned this in another thread but it's worth mentioning here as well that the sale ends today. You can get various Jones CDs for £3 each if you follow the link, including the 2-CD Sonecinemad concert album.

  3. Thanks to a user at Intrada:

Here's a couple of interesting interviews with Trevor Jones, which I found on youtube (looks like they were produced for South African TV). Quite a find, considering Jones has so rarely been featured on television...

Has he retired from film music btw?

Get a load of this -- a new ad campaign for Aquarius bottled water, featuring Trevor Jones (who also wrote the music)!

  5. Could it be?

Trevor Jones gets the chance to score another film To Tokyo?
It might not be the film I was hoping for, but still better this than no Trevor Jones at all. After al he still outguns 80% of the composers of today.
    waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh

That's cool. He hasn't really scored anything noteworthy since LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN in 2003.
    I am extremely serious.
  6. Awesome. I hope that assignment works out and gets a release.

Trevor Jones will be a guest on Tenerife late September. I am looking forward to it.

As I pointed out in the Upcoming Film Scores thread, Jones deleted mention of the project from his site, so presumably he is no longer scoring it.

  8. Man I can still remember that glorious year 1998 like it was yesterday, which IMO had 3 of Trevor Jones best ever scores: Merlin, Dark City and The Mighty. love

It's almost 20 years later, Hollywood has changed for the worse, and Mr. Jones is just not getting a break at all.

Which is weird, because he's very versatile, like when he channeled Zimmer on G.I. JANE.
    I am extremely serious.
  9. GI Jane still has that distinctive Jones sound. Never once thought it was derived from Zimmer's.

It's very much Zimmer/90s, but yes -- it's also Jones. Great hybrid score, and displays Jones' versatility.

  10. I found G.I. Jane" to be one of the worst Jones scores I had heard. I tried picking the "best" parts of the score thinking maybe I could come away with some suites of material maybe worth listening. I came away with one short suite that I think I can go the rest of my life without hearing again.

Interesting. It's one of my favourite Jones scores.
    I am extremely serious.
  11. It's entertaining, especially in the shortened suites and a little less on the expanded promo.

I mostly like it for its powerful rock-infused anthems. The main theme is awesome ! punk

  12. I think there was a short-lived rumor that Hans wrote the theme to GI Jane biggrin

I like Thor's non-conformity. How dull it would be if everyone agreed.
Bach's music is heartless and robotic.
  14. Justin in his top mode - whenever he doesn't agree with somebody (and actually doesn't understand their points, which in case of Thor may be, granted, somehow academic at times), he just insults them.
http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website
  15. What was there not to understand in Thor's remark? And yes, Justin's observations are irritating at times.

    Volker
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  16. I don't care if somebody doesn't like my humor, however if you think it was an not only insult (which it wasn't) and just an insult, you missed the whole point. It's what Thor seems to love doing, taking something that is bad and rightfully disliked by many, and pronouncing it not only something he likes by holding it to a higher platform and declaring terrible things to be masterpieces.

I have no problem with Thor doing it, but with the frequency of it and always reminding us of it at the places he posts, it's something to take a jab at.

I'll give Thor this -- he can take a jab nicely. Unlike a certain FSM member, who I won't name, that if you took a jab at him for what he is known for, he'd throw a fucking baby tantrum.

  17. First, taste is subjective. The fact that something is "not liked by many" does not necessarily mean that someone took a dump on something and that person liked it. Not at all. But your behavior goes way further than just taking a jab. Should I remind you what you said about Erik some time before? In this case and actually one not involving you at all and on another forum whatsoever, I just wouldn't trust you (long short story, in a discussion on The Dark Knight Rises someone lashed out quite personally at Hans' very approach based on 30 second samples, when I called him on that and his posts got deleted, it was indirectly, but obviously, suggested, as I was in contact with the man already, that I had sex with Hans Zimmer).

So if I act out against things like that, I do have experience of being personally attacked over something as well. It's not necessarily personally against you (though, having my own history doing that, now I will always defend composers against personal attacks even if I don't really like their music), but it's about one simple fact: online or offine, I know what bullying is. Too well, I'd add.

  18. What a ridiculous turn of events when all Thor said is that he loved a score that isn't regarded as highly by others. And who are those others? Certainly not me... rolleyes

Is G.I. JANE 'rightfully disliked by many'? It's my impression that both film and score are widely LIKED (or at least that reception was mixed). I know that within my own circle of 'film buddies', the movie is appreciated as a typical example of Scott's feminist cinema.
