Me too. But as D says, things seem to have speeded up now.The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Was not Vanilla, but the server farm itself, and since all my film music websites are run on them, also IFMCA was affected.
What three C&C releases would you take to the little Island of Misfit Noise? -

How about a 'rep' feature for posts? It might be a nice feature for all those posts that get read but not responded to (i.e. the non-film music now playing thread).
Perhaps it could be similar to a facebook 'like' button? If you don't want it to clutter up the look of the forum, perhaps even a drop down menu (sort of thing) in each post that shows who's 'liked' the post?"Message board incredulity is the least satisfied emotion in human history." - Franz -

I kinda like that idea!

It's, as Steven says, like Facebook's "Like" button, to show appreciation for a post, even it isn't something you don't feel comfortable (for whatever reason) directly responding to.“The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision.” ~ Lynn Lavner -

Ah, ok. I didn't get the 'rep' reference, I guess that means 'reputation'. A world opens!
I could do that. I'll see if that's in Vanilla 2, which I'm currently trying out for upgrading (I really am!) instead of playing with it before. What three C&C releases would you take to the little Island of Misfit Noise? -

It also would help to make people who have put some effort into a posting but got no replies feel a bit better, appreciation, as Martijn says being the key word. -

Some options on how it might appear in the post, with the prefix [your name]:
…approves of this post
…thanks you for this post
…appreciates this post
…likes this post
…wants to hug you for this post
…wants to buy you dinner for this post
…wants to bear your children thanks to this post"Message board incredulity is the least satisfied emotion in human history." - Franz -

Or, as I said, perhaps just a simple 'rep' feature that many forums have. (Short for reputation.)
I just thought I'd plant the seeds of thought! It's all good either way."Message board incredulity is the least satisfied emotion in human history." - Franz -

Something tells me that …wants to bear your children thanks to this post will be used a lot.

I was actually implying choosing just one option to be used thereafter, but if it's possible and not overcomplicating things, I'm all for a choice to express your appreciation for a post (though I think a simple 'so and so likes this' is sufficient).

As I've said before, how about a video and/or picture embedding feature? It doesn't have to clutter up the forum since it can be put in a tag that opens up when you press on it. Martijn's happy, and everyone else is happy!
Except Tom. He'll never be happy."Message board incredulity is the least satisfied emotion in human history." - Franz -

Steven, can you give an example of that fuctionality on another site somewhere?
I'm a bit at a loss to see how your suggestion differs from the url-embedding there is on MT now?“The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision.” ~ Lynn Lavner -

It differs by having the picture/video in the post.

I am not too happy with the 'like' button, for instance on Facebook. I don't mean I'm against it, I just don't use it myself. I try to reply to everything I really like.
I get the feeling that many people press it just to let know they have read/seen it! Also, I have posted clips that were liked within a couple of seconds, so that means it wasn't even listened to first. I do admit it is nice when at least a few people like what I post, especially when there are no comments.
I wonder how that would work on a forum though. I guess almost every post will be liked then??
I am also afraid a like button will be a substitute for a reply. On the other hand, as a substitute for nothing at all it is better than nothing perhaps. -

I don't think it will stop conversation. That's why we're here in the first place! As you say, what it will do is to allow many posts that go un-replied get a 'like'. It lets people know it's been read and appreciated.
If you post a link, for example, then having a like feature won't convince people not to view, or to view it more. It simply gives them a chance to show their appreciation where they otherwise might not have."Message board incredulity is the least satisfied emotion in human history." - Franz -

Yeah I guess it works like that. For instance I just laughed at your Pokemon clip (funny videos) but didn't reply. That's where a button like that would be nice! It was funny.
It still makes me wonder: would there be more comments on facebook if a like button did not exist?
Maybe not. -

Sorry guys.
When I created filmscore.be and maintitles.net a few years later, I worked on it for a month almost every evening (Martijn and Demetris can attest during the beta testing). Since I work, it's much harder and it costs me a lot of effort to even start with something. Hobby has become a job, but time and brains are fewer for that old hobby unfortunately... Never found back that groove.
Anyhow, I'm working step by step to revamping Golden Scores. I hope to continue with MT after that. It'll go slow. What three C&C releases would you take to the little Island of Misfit Noise? -

i think that may well be one of the major reasons Andy eventually gave up ScoreReviews.
Sorry to hear it's become a hassle, Bregt.

Hmmm.....sorry to hear that, Bregt. As Martijn said, it should have an element of fun. Have you ever thought about getting other IT-savvy people here to help out? I know there are a couple.
I'm not worried our community will go away, but at some point someone else would probably need to take over, when Bregt it weary of it all. It's a lot of work creating and maintaining a site such as this, I would assume. Especially since it's all done for free.
