This answers all questions as to why Hans Zimmer now only writes music with two notes. Anything more causes the conductor to get violent.

When I read the thread title I thought you were going to encourage us to down tools and bring our placards and start chanting abuse outside Remote Control HQ!

Ehm...certainly unorthodox conducting there by whoever it is (Fowler?). Is that supposed to be a serious recording session?

    Details, please.
    I am extremely serious.
  2. Fowler, Black Hawk Down.

I saw a video of Pete Anthony conducting an avant-garde cue in Pirates of the Caribbean 2, it was quite similar.

Yeah, but is it a "warm-up" gig or something or actual music recorded for the film? What's with the histrionics?

I think they were doing some aleatoric movements.

I don't recall such passages in the film, maybe they were recorded and not used eventually? or as LP said before, some warm-up / discussion / experimentation before the actual recording.

This is when players play what they want. One of definitions says that aleatoric music is music based on mathematical probability. Can you expand on it, Demetris?

It's the atonalist's / serialist's improvisation just to be it VERY roughly. Composer gives some basic lines and they - all experienced musicians and players in that field 'cause you need to be able to follow some basic genre rules, like for instance some mathematic series that translate to a certain series of notes which you can manipulate as your "melodic" line or base your improvisation upon - start improvising. They call it music but to the logical human being is mostly noise wink biggrin

Most of the times, partly because the whole thing is very loose and subjective (although they won't accept something like that) and partly because some musicians aren't experienced enough, it'll give you the same result with a group of 3 year olds banging on the instruments. wink

If I was hired to write a score, on the day of recording I know I'd just piss about like this.

    (until I got fired)
